Whatever happened to manners?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

literally the ONLY game i play online is peggle. unless it's with people i know, then i'll play COD or something, but i don't enjoy playing online in general. i'm more of a single-player or local multiplayer guy.

also, how anyone missed this here gem of a quote is beyond my comprehension:

Quoted for truth.

My only on-line gaming experience was on Quake 3 (not played it for a while now, other things to do, but will get back to it again) with similar taunts after a match finishes and before a new one starts.

Unfortunately, teenagers these days are foul mouthed and badly behaved on the internet and take it to extremes as they know they cannot be brought to heel as "its the internetz". It is no surprise therefore that when these same unruly kids get active on forums they continue their arsehole behaviour as they would on on-line gaming and turn perfectly good forums into rack-shit. I have had experiences of that on other sites, no respect for others given and behaving like "Lord of the Flies" characters in the book (kiddies dumped on a deserted island with no adults, having to "make a society" and rules; wth predictable results). Not my idea of somewhere to be associated within, or fun. I like fun like the next man, but there is a big difference between being jovial and light-hearted and an arse-hole behaving like a kiddie in a playground trying to impress their mates by being worse than they are on "da internetz".

That is why this forum is great - older members, have manners and respectability, little tolerence for kiddie behaviour, and a great bunch of people. The younger members here also seem to behave and are very welcome. It is most refreshing.

Makes you wonder what "the internetz" will be like in 10 years from now, when these arse-hole kiddies have become proper adults - if they continue their behaviour on-line or dispair at their old behaviour when they see "the new generation" behaving like they did! - or maybe, once an arse-hole, always an arse-hole. Time will tell!

Well, if things keep going the way they're going now, anonymity on the Internet would disappear in ten years.

jesus christ, man, are you a big proponent of eugenics as well? i'm assuming that you're using "retarded" as a synonym for "stupid" or "idiotic," in which case, yes i'll agree with you that being "retarded" is a bad thing. however, being mentally or developmentally disabled is a damaging condition that is simply beyond one's control and should not be denigrated to a childish insult, nevermind being determined "bad" or "unfavorable." i shouldn't have to explain the obvious.

I am a big proponent of truth and reality. I agree that you shouldn't discriminate against someone because they are retarded, because it wasn't their choice to become retarded. All I am saying is that it is bad to be retarded, because it negatively affects one's ability to function properly.

I could make the same argument for the words "stupid" and "idiotic". Some people can't help but be stupid or idiotic. So what? It's not a good thing to be stupid so it works as an insult.
