Pros and Cons of Overclocking a Dreamcast?

Post by itsmattxp »

I am trying to get the full potential out of my dreamcast and was wondering what overclock it would do. I read very little about it, basically the site's article and a couple of posts that I could find but not much that was concrete. Does it just make your Dreamcast run things faster? I think I read that it messes up with the clock quite a bit but I am not sure if I should believe that or not. Any information would be helpful since if it is beneficial enough, I might dive into this endeavor or get someone to do it for me. Thanks!

I dont really think it would help much. The games run fine as is. I dont see how OCing it would make it any better.

It might boost DreamSNES up to 100%, though.

It won't, it will however guarantee you have to buy another Dreamcast sooner rather than later though.

Wasn't the point to be able to watch videos on it? I remember something about Divx videos running on a Dreamcast. If it wasn't Divx, it was something else, but I remember reading that you have to overclock the Dreamcast to be able to play them correctly.

If all you wanna do is play DC games, I wouldn't even bother with it. It'll just wear out your Dreamcast sooner, like Krooner said. If it doesn't even help emulation, then what's the point?

As someone who grew up watching that stupid "your brain on drugs" public service announcement, I got a little chuckle out of that. Nice one.
