I Love My Neo-Geo Pocket Color!

Post by lisalover1 »

No, not in the same way as the guy who married his DS. I've been collecting a lot for this system lately, and just tonight, I decided that it has replaced the Game Boy Color as my favorite handheld system. There are currently 16 games in my NGPC collecion, all with the plastic cartridge box to hold them:

Biomotor Unitron [Complete]
Metal Slug 1st Mission
Samurai Shodown 2
Puzzle Link 2
Faselei!
Dive Alert: Becky's Version
Cardfighter's Clash: Capcom Version
Gal's Fighters
Sonic Pocket Adventure
King Of Fighters R2
Metal Slug 2nd Mission
Puzzle Bobble Mini
SNK vs. Capcom: The Match of the Millennium
Dark Arms
The Last Blade
Pocket Tennis Color

There are some games and other things that I still want to get for my NGPC:

Magical Drop Pocket
King of Fighters R1
Baseball Stars Color
Cool Cool Jam
Evolution: Eternal Dungeons [Really Expensive, but still interested]
Pac-Man
Rockman: Battle & Fighters [Also very expensive]
Shanghai Mini
King of Fighters: Battle De Paradise
Cotton: Fantastic Night Dreams
NGPC Link Cable
[Also, I'm bidding on a wireless adapter online right now.]

I love my NGPC for many reasons. One of them being the joystick. It was a fantastic idea, has a satisfying clikcing sound, and really outlined what the system was meant for; arcade ports. The second is the fantastic ratio of good-to-bad games. Since not many 3rd party developers supported the NGPC, most of the big games were made by SNK themselves. I'm fine with that, because Capcom was one of the developers that showed support for the system, and thus, we got SNK vs. Capcom MoTM, likely the best fighting game on the console. Biomotor Unitron is one I just got a little while ago, and I really like it. It's already become a very special game for me. Let me explain. Years ago, when I had my GBC as my primary portable system, almost the only game series I played for it was Dragon Warrior. Back then, I was entranced by the simple yet addictive 1-on-1 battles, and the modest, charming graphics, it struck a chord with me. Since I've grown up in gaming, I think I've lost that; I no longer can retain as much interest in such a simple game. That changed with Biomotor Unitron. I can now appreciate the minimalistic, fun RPG that I used to love as a kid. It hasn't left the cartridge slot of my NGPC yet, and I think I'll play a little more after I'm done posting here.
So, if you do own a NGPC, what do you find cool about it? Can you recommend any games not listed here?

Hmmm, this is making me want a ngpc. Does anyone know of any good ngpc emulators for the ds that I could use to whet my appettite with?

The only one I could find was NDS NeoPop, which seems pretty basic: http://www.zophar.net/consoles/nds/ngpo ... eopop.html

I'm glad more people are considering the NGPC. It's a spectacular system that's specialty are fast, fun arcade games. Also, it's worth noting that the system's sports games are actually quite fun, and have absolutely nothing to do with Madden! That alone should bump them up a few notches.

I love my NGPC but really haven't gotten around to getting more games for it. Maybe I should but since I have a MVS as well seems like it wouldn't be worth it.

I use my NGPC on a nearly daily basis. Any time I have time to kill and won't be anywhere near home, I bring it with me and play some SvC:Card Fighter's Clash.

I've never managed to get into that one. I much prefer Pokemon Trading Card game for GBC.

Gals Fighters, however, is always fun.

I havn't tried the ds emultor yet but I did play MS 1st mission on my pc and it is sweet. Which doesn't surprise me considering how much I love Metal slug.

Damnit :x A new obsession awaits.

I like my NGPC but I have to admit it gets very little play time :( The DS is just more convenient for daily commute on the subway and travels in general (lit screen, close the clamshell when you need to stop, recharge the battery instead of fiddling with the AA recharger etc.)

I should see if I play more NGPC though, it has some very good games (I finished Metal Slug 1st and 2nd mission, and they have replayability).

Ivo.
