my mum never really liked the idea of video games much, so i don't think i ever got given a console for christmas, though once or twice i was allowed to pick out a game. My mega drive, snes and master system were donated to me, and i bought my gameboy, gameboy advance, and wii with my birthday money.
actually, come to think of it, she did give me money towards a gamecube when i finished my exams at school, and I did manage to convince her to get me a Pokemon Pikachu N64 for christmas once, shame the N64 stopped releasing games that year ¬_¬.

Wow, and how many games did you get for it back then and which games?Breetai wrote:I got an NES for Christmas once and a Sega CD a different year. The Sega CD absolutely surprised me. Completely unexpected! I think my dad was interested in the idea of CD games.
I've got no signature.

Shoot, did you also get the neon-colored velcro ball-throwing game for Xmas? I see a neon pink disc in pic 2. That thing was boss.
Of course, the SNES carts are boss too.

I wondered the same thing. It's gotta be that or either a frisbee.dedalusdedalus wrote:Shoot, did you also get the neon-colored velcro ball-throwing game for Xmas?
I can still hear the sound of ripping the tennis ball off the velcro pad.

My parents said that the nintendo was too expensive. I spent a whole summer mowing every person's lawn in my neighborhood to finally buy one for myself. Then I played the hell out of Super Mario Bros because it was the only game I had. I knew everything there was to know about that game- warp zones, invisible boxes, hidden coin banks, the minus world, infinite lives shell bounce, the fact that, no, you actually can't jump OVER the flagpole no matter how hard you try. Now, I never learn the ins and outs of a game like that. I'm lucky if I play it for more than 30 minutes before moving on to the next game. I think poverty made me a better gamer. I worked hard to get my Mario and I was going to suck every ounce of joy out of that game that I could before I went back to mowing lawns to get a new game.

Yea that was a game where you would strap that plate to your hand and throw a Velcro ball back and forth and you had to catch it with that. Oh and yea it's a hippo in the back ground my mom still has that in her house to this day.
