Hello,
This topic is in regard of Assassin' Creed the first, and it has spoilers.
I just want to share my thoughts on the game I just finished it.
If you read any of my topics on gaming you probably figure out that the thing I like most about games(or anything probably) is the story.
Definition of a the story as I see it: Its the whole atmosphere of the game including characters, graphics, story line, ending, objectives, dialogue, vocabulary, and everything that makes the setting.
I honestly feel this is a really incredible game that did not get what it deserve. Its like living a movie or a book. Its so amazing how accurately detailed it is, and you probably missed on a lot of the arabic dialogue but I didn't. Its not just gibberish, its fitting and 100% correct in meaning and pronunciation . The clothing , streets, cities, its all done in almost perfect detail. Even the names of the characters, you probably never knew that "Al-tayir" means "the flyer" or "the bird" or that "Al-Moualim" means the teacher, pundit, or big boss.
This also has to be awarded best story line maybe. I am in doubt they created this whole fantasy world just for the game, and its not even an RPG. The twist in story lines, the missions, the story behind every man being assassinated is all interesting and makes you want to continue to play just to know what is going to happen. How much thought was put in not making this just in old medieval times, but tie it with a deep story with modern times going back and forth, gaining memory from genes? Thats like totally original. It is really epic. All the characters are unique and very memorable.
I was mesmerized by the graphics. Whole cities with its people, remember they have to look back in history to recreate all this. I know other games achieved similar level of detail such as GTA4, but GTA4 mimics currently life which is easy because its here and now all around us.I know 2007 is 3 years back, but there are games around today that are very far from this level of graphics. You got to give credit.
Last is gameplay. How cool is it to jump around the city, hide, and assassinate. Maybe there were others games where you had to go and "kill" some one. But I guess this is the first time, or one of the few games, that you actually feel like an assassin. Hiding in secret, eavesdropping , pick-pocketing , getting information out of informants and more. You have to go in search of information to gain knowledge about your next target.
I can talk a lot about how cool this game is , and how we should all thank ubisoft for this great experience.
Finally negatives.
The game has repetitive , but its not that bad. Each time you pick pocket something else, and you eavesdrop to listen to something new. Plus the excuses informants give to make you assassinate guards are fun to listen and unique, one guy was drunk and the other twisted his ankle. Its repetitive , but not that bad.
Jumping and climbing is a lot of fun, but sometimes gets in the way. You run to the wall to climb the ladder but you run up the wall and fall, running away from guards you end up hanging from a window. I felt it was a bit glitchy because it seems you lose control at times.
There is some level of frustration to this game. You are just about to pick pocket in a mission, a poor person comes along "GIVE MONEY GIVE MONEY" and he/she stands between you and the guy you try to picket pocket or assassinate. Those crazy sick people push you around and reveal our cover making your mission end and you have to run away and come back in a little while and start all over again. Some missions are impossibly hard , those are the informants assassination missions where you had to do stealth killings. I read a secret on the internet that made it easy , teach it to all those playing the game "Kill the target in low profile with your blade, when the target is not looking towards a guard, don't run, walk along" If you don't know this it will be hard.
Last and worst of the negatives, the guy who created the fighting system is an idiot. My hand was in constant pain holding that trigger and X. This kind of slow fighting needs 2-3 enemies at max. At 10-12 enemies and more continue to flood , you need a God of War system of fighting to get rid of them. Countering attacks is stupid, you have 12 enemies and whenever you pull a successful counter you end up just pushing the enemy not killing him.
*****
Last words is that this game is a fantastic experience, it could have been 11/10 except for clear drawbacks which I heard was fixed on the sequel. I hope Ubisoft create a trillion dollars in profit for such a great game.
I can easily see this turn into a fantastic movie, tv series, animated series, or a book series. The world where it sets is very amazing.
I always saw people highly effected by the world of Zelda, but I never knew why. This game has it all and its easy to see a great cult following for it.
I am sorry this got a lot longer than I thought it would. This might sound like a review, but its not, its just what I thought of the game. I want to hear what you thought about the game too.
btw, any one know where can I see cut-scenes of the game, I want to re-watch some to collect information about the story with out replaying missions because they are difficult.
it will be hard waiting to play the sequel, I need to finish some other games first .

I thought it was bollocks, got bored and didn't finish it
Re: Assassin's Creed , after thoughts-Spoilers
I'm glad you liked it but yeah, I too couldn't get into the first one. Maybe it was the repetitive nature of the game; it left me wanting more freedom.
BUT, the sequel does fix any problem I had with the first. I got every trophy on that game and loved every minute of it. I'm really excited for you to try it. If you loved the first one that much, your head is going to explode when you play the sequel.

Well, I am not sure why the first was not interesting.
If you start the game, and try to hit 1 or 2 people and think
"This action is slow, its not like God of War. I hate it"
Then thats the idea you will get but if you give it a chance, i think it was very well done.
I thought pressing a button change the camera angle on cut-scenes was innovative and kept you engaged, how the story is revealed is interested, people looking at you jumping around buildings show reality of the game. How would it look if you were walking down the street and some one is jumping roof to roof and hanging to walls. There was so much thought put into this game, and I will be sad for it to be unappreciated.
Although , I understand if you just look at gameplay that it isn't much. Because yes, its the same old sword fighting over and over again.

I found the first fairly boring and disliked how much it focused on stealth. I thought number 2 took the series in the right direction. I could count the flaws in the second game on one hand, I could do the same for the first one with things I liked about the game.
To each there own though.

hmmm...
it appears the first is a personal preference as no one seems to like it, although its a popular title. I thought people loved stealth, isn't stealth what is MGS all about? weird ..
But I trust the sequel is better as every one is saying this, they say everything got fixed and improve... as I said can't wait to play it.
btw, is possible they improved on graphics?

While its hardly a improvement in terms of polycounts and what not the landscape is amazing, 15th Cent Italy, it just looks stunning.
Re: Assassin's Creed , after thoughts-Spoilers
Where do we stand with this mess now? Two digitised cunts who are fighting over which gets to control the world? How laughable..

Re: Assassin's Creed , after thoughts-Spoilers
I loved the first Assassin's Creed game and think that the actual assassinations are the best in this game out of the others I have played so far, which are AC, ACII, and Brotherhood. The ending of the first is a bit ... WTF just happened, but other than that, yeah I loved it.RCBH928 wrote:hmmm...

The game play is much improved in the sequels and missions are way less repetitive, but that's always going to be a problem with sandbox games.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

You weren't doing it right then, the game makes you perfectly capable of taking on a large amount of enemies if you master how to block and counter effectively. These mechanics were designed quite well and you can make yourself nearly invincible with just the counters. After I went through the game a few times and got bored with it, I remember I spent time with it just running through cities getting as many people as I could to chase me to see how many I could take out in a cluster. I think my record was like 30-40 guards.RCBH928 wrote:At 10-12 enemies and more continue to flood , you need a God of War system of fighting to get rid of them. Anyway, overall I have pretty positive thoughts on the game. I actually feel like the original is the most interesting one, after that the games get carried away and lose sight of what made the first one so cool, the gameplay and assassination missions. The sequels get very ridiculous with you having to build a city and constantly upgrade your gear with forced and unintuitive menus. The gameplay is more polished in the sequels, but they are so much less inspired and derivative.
I eventually just gave up as it becomes clear they are eventually just adding stuff for the sake of it and pasting GTA elements brainlessly rather than building on what established the original game as a unique sandbox title.
