Video Games--VERSUS--Wife, FIGHT!
Re: Video Games--VERSUS--Wife, FIGHT!
My wife seems to hate everything that I like. I've actually recently developed a theory that she doesn't actually hate comics, video games, or 80s films, but pretends to hate them just to spite me.

You need to start liking her favorite band.jfe2 wrote:My wife seems to hate everything that I like. I've actually recently developed a theory that she doesn't actually hate comics, video games, or 80s films, but pretends to hate them just to spite me.

I would never tolerate that.jfe2 wrote:My wife seems to hate everything that I like. I've actually recently developed a theory that she doesn't actually hate comics, video games, or 80s films, but pretends to hate them just to spite me.
Actually I realized I do have some experience with this. I dated a couple girls who didn't share my love of gaming. Although their responses weren't directly condescending of my hobby, they had a reaction somewhat like "Oh, you're into THAT?", and that was enough in itself to make me feel alienated from them. Although it wasn't the only factor that caused us to break up, it was definitely a significant contributor. Needless to say, both relationships were very short lived. If you can't respect my interests, then I can't respect you, and if I can't do that I certainly can't love you either.
Re: Video Games--VERSUS--Wife, FIGHT!
I am reminded of a recent purchase to try and encourage my wife to play video games:

It was a worthwhile effort at $10 from target, and solicited an amazing 5 hours of gameplay from my wife. Perhaps one of those newfangled Wii Fit kits shall be my next purchase...
I just wish there was a 'Wuthering Heights Wii', my wife would kick ass with that.

I guess I am pretty lucky in this regard. When we were dating, the first time she found out about my gaming habit was when I couldn't pick her up from school because I was buying my Saturn at release.
"Wow! how much did that cost? Can I come over and play it?"
While playing and talking about the topic of games, I discovered that she had a NES hooked up in her room along with around 30 games. I was in love
Fast forward about 15 years and she still loves to play games, albeit not as frequently. I guess she is more of a casual gamer now, with her PopCap, Flash, and Facebook games. She still plays the shit out of the Wii and DS though. She has always been a Nintendo nut.
She rolls her eyes sometimes when I spend a bit too much on a game or when I re-buy something that I traded or sold previously. I try and limit myself on what I spend so it's not that often.
Her favorites are Survival Horror, Platformers, Point and Click Adventure, RPG (she hates JRPGs though) and plays a mean game of Starcraft. She hates FPS with a passion, but likes to watch me play the story based ones as long as they are interesting to her.
