My CIB mortal kombat for the snes

Post by tahoe2 »

I dont like it lol. I got it for like 8.99. My local Play N Trade will buy it for 10 bucks. Should i do this, or will I make more off of it somewhere else. Or should I just keep it for collectors reasons.

If you didn't like it, I'd say sell it. The SNES port of Mortal Kombat is the weakest of the ports. Shoot, VGPC's price for it is currently about $5.00, so go for it.

Alright thanks. It really is terrible. I bought it because i thought the awesome theme song would be on it. Damn. I knew it would be sort of bad, but not as bad as it ended being.

Back in Texas we had a gameworks. So a long time ago i played arcade versions of mortal kombat and another 2D fighter that i think was a cross between mortal kombat and something else. From what i remember it was reallly fun and incredibly easy to get used to.

Ok, just wondering. A lot of folks nowadays who go back to them have trouble getting into it again as they can get pretty cheap(self included). If you want a SNES Mortal Kombat game, I'd say go for MK2, and you can also pick up Mortal Kombat 3 and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 if you feel the desire.

That Play N Trade is offering way too much for Mortal Kombat. If I lived nearby, I'd scoop up several from the internet and sell it to them, assuming that they're not paying a premium on account of the box.

The Genesis version was the best of the original ports to the home consoles. You could turn the blood on through a cheat (ABACABB or DULLARD at the start menu) and got the real fatalities once the code was on. Both of those codes will be burned in my mind forever....

It is really a shame because the SNES version was better in every other way. It had the best graphics, the best sound, better controls... Nintendo really dropped the ball with the censorship in this game. Thankfully after the SNES MK1 version didn't sell well they changed their ways with the MK2 port and it out shined the Genesis port in every way other than control. IMO control was much better with a Genesis 6-button pad over the standard SNES controller.

There was also a port of MK2 to the 32X. I personally think it is the best port of the game to a cart loading system. However it is pretty obvious that it was a rushed port...it could have been so much better than it is. Basically the 32X version plays like the Genesis version with improved graphics. The sound isn't much better than the 16-bit ports though. I wouldn't buy a 32X just for this game but if you own the console already there is really no point in not picking it up.

Stay far away from the Saturn port of MK2... It was also a rush job and it came out around the same time MK3 hit the PSX. I won't go in to all the details...I'll just say don't expect an arcade experience here. Again it is a real shame because the Saturn could have been the ultimate home console port of this game if more time would have been spent on it.

There was also a port of MK1 to the Sega CD. I've never played it because by the time it came out I'd had the cart version for a while and I figured the loading time would be unbearable. ;)

When it comes to MK3 things get a bad again. Both the Genesis and SNES ports are very toned down compared to the arcade version due to the limitations of the 16-bit consoles. The version for the PS1 is probably the best with minor loading times..but it has this annoying problem with fatalities and Shang Tsung morphing. When either happens the game must stop and load so if your a big Tsung fan it kinda kills the flow of the game for you.

Yeah, they are paying more for it because it's in a box. And pnt has a database that lists how much to pay, or sell for a game. It's the same one they use at Bookmans ( a local bookstore that is actually half retro video games. They have about 30 dreamcasts behind a glass door). PnT isn't really that smart. They were selling secret of mana not complete for like 54 bucks.

Yeah, PnT is kind of dumb with prices; perhaps to an even greater extent than Gamestop. They'll overprice just about any Square/Enix RPG to ridiculous levels.

But their pricing stupidity can also work in favor of the consumer sometimes, so I don't really hold it against them. I picked up a gray wavebird for $15 and a Dreamcast DreamBlaster gun for $5 at my Play N Trade.
