Since when did grunge have anything to do with heavy/doom metal? Maybe there were some heavy metal influences (not to mention punk and indie rock influences), but grunge had nothing to do with heavy or doom metal.GSZX1337 wrote:No. Grunge was terrible. I grew up with a rotary phone, and my microwave had a dial for the time. My TV had dials too. What happened to dials? They were all replaced by buttons, and the buttons are now being replaced by touch screens.

Re: The spoiled under-30 crowd!!!
I'm 30 and everything you said is right except for microwaves we had a microwaves.
Once I turned 12 or 13 we had America online which was bad ass with chat rooms and there video game section where we could talk about super nintendo and sega. But yea we played games for about an hour and the rest of the time was spent outside roaming the streets looking for trouble to get into or listening to grunge. And you're right no one cared if your parent's beat you, and you could get into a fight at school and you might get suspended for a day hahah. The internet and technology has made kids think there smarter then they are because they can look up whatever they want within seconds so they think they are an expert at everything. And kids today are most defiantly lazier then we ever where. It's staggering how many overweight kids you see now, when i was a kid in school in the 80's and early 90's there were only a few fat kids at most now there are tons.
Watch the movie wall-e and that's the road were headed down.

If I had to make a suggestion, I would say its probably the 18-20 and under crowd. Being roughly 25 now, I went through this entire transition period and I certainly don't take it for granted. I certainly remember using the 33.6k baud modem to dial into Prodigy on my parents Motorola computer.

I'm 23 and I can remember all of that. Just replace the Atari 2600 with the NES and you've described the early part of my childhood. I do live in the back woods though so change came slow around these parts.
O and we still beat out kids around here. No kid in their right mind would ever call child services around these parts. My ass is still raw from the whoopin's I took all through childhood.

All I know is that not a single person in my high school had a cell phone. If you wanted to call someone when you were away from home, you had to find a pay phone and have change on you!
CD's were just becoming mainstream, and I remember when Electronic Skip Protection (ESP) was the coolest things since sliced bread. In fact, I'd like to think that with ESP in mind, I came up with the idea of an ipod years before Apple did. Unfortunately, I was a15 year old kid who had no idea how to get my idea out there
. I could have been rich!!
