Bootleg cart at Gamestop = fail

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Picked up Pinball tonight (360) for $10. I Also picked up Raiden IV for $20 new.

Both were legitimate copies, as far as i can tell

Anyway, not a bad haul for $30. I am considering selling my Wii version of the Pinball game - VGPC lists it at $14 used. Anyone want it for $15 shipped? Just PM me...

I've just been looking through my GBA cartridges, and some have labels as wonky as that Pocky and Rocky Cart, yet i know i bought them brand new, shrink wrapped and at full price from Gamestation.
There are GB fakes that come in boxes too in Europe. The 2 easiest things to check for are a number physically stamped in the label (see the 13 on the right of my example cart) and if you see Nintendo silkscreened next to the pins.
Yes, but these were brand new launch day stock, they have the stamped number, they seem to be modelled on the same cart, the screws seem to match, although i don't what you mean by the silkscreened nintendo. However, my Mario and Luigi carts sticker is roughly as wonky as the one on that Pocky and Rocky cartridge. The labels arent going to be straight on every cartridge, it just seems to be a very bad indicator of whether its a fake to me.

This thread has inspired me to go and examine all my GBA carts to make sure they are all real. I think they probably are, since they all save, but I'm going to check.

The point is all of the things add up to things to look for when checking a cart. Correct font/cheap molding on cart, neatly applied label, stamped label, correct tri-wing screw, correct game code, and Nintendo silkscreening. Some things are not negotiable, but obviously crooked labels can occasionally happen.

Look at my picture in the first post. On the actual circuit board there's a Nintendo copyright next to the connection pins which is missing from the bootleg. When a cart is assembled, you can still see that if you look in the end of a real cart.

Ah, I get it now. So that's what you mean with silkscreening.

What about the codes, though? I got a game with code AGB-AYCE-USA on the label, AGB-002 on the back and AGB-E03-20 on the circuit board. Aren't they all supposed to match up...?
Where is a good place to check these?

Yeah, sorry. Silkscreening is a print process that involves making a mask on a silk screen, then ink is pushed through the unmasked bits. It's used to print T-shirts, text on circuit boards, and paper prints. So yeah, when I said silkscreening, I meant the white text on the circuit board. Pardon my assumption that people knew what I meant.

The AGB-002 is Nintendo's part code for the plastic cart shell. AGB-001 is the code for a GBA system. I imagine 003 is the charger, etc. AGB-E03-20 is the part code for that particular circuit board layout. AGB-AYCE-USA is the code for the actual game, in this case its the US release of Phantasy Star Collection. You can try plugging those codes into google as some sites will have it listed. Generally if you get a lot of hits that all say the same game it will be correct. Sometimes Gamefaqs has the code listed on the 'data' page for the game.
