Traffic Rant

Post by Amon »

I do not know if there is a topic deditcated to rants but I just need to get this out...

<rant>
Drivers that drive less than 1mph over a speed bump need to be shot. Especially the ones that stop right at the speed bump, turn the wheel, drive to the top of the bump, stop, turn the wheel in the oposite direction etc etc etc. If you want to treat your car that way then do not drive it. Stop holding up everyone else because you are scared of a speed bump.

This is illegal. Believing others should break the law and either risk a ticket or violate their personal moral convictions for your convenience is kind of a jerk position, imo.

I would join in but if I start unleashing my road rage this is going to be a LONG thread. I'm convinced the license test in my state consists of playing a round of Grand Theft Auto and paying the clerk $20.

If I didn't do the funny turn thing over the speed bumps my front and rear bumpers would both be pulled off.

Also, they are speed bumps because they are supposed to keep you from going fast, yet here you are trying to advocate an illegal and potentially unsafe act.

If driving my Pathfinder, I can run over the speed bump and risk damaging my suspension, or drive over them slowly, like a rational person. In my Focus or in my wife's Mazda 3, I take it smooth and easy, or risk damage to the car, including the muffler.

You should spend more time getting frustrated about people illegally parking in handicapped spaces and less on the speed bumps. *winky wink*

Let me clarify, my intent was not to condone speeding. I believe in slowing down for speed bumps but there is a safe speed in which you can drive over a speed bump. If speed bumps stopped every car going over it, it should be replaced with a stop sign. I guess I was just in a foul mood this morning that got stuck behind a car that treated speed bumps as stop signs.

And yes I get frustrated over people illegally parking in handicapped spaces or people that take up more than one stall when they park more.

I also understand going slowly over them if they will damage your car.

Those are the ppl I 'help' by giving them a little nudge to get them over the speed bump. If they were to say anything I would just be like "hey! it looked like you were struggling a little there so I wanted to help".... n/m the new scratches and marks on their bumper!

Updated the title to be more descriptive.

I'm with the TC. You don't need to go over the speed bump at full speed, but they aren't goddamn stop signs. What really sucks is when there's three or four bumps in a row and you're stuck behind someone who treats each and every one like a stop sign.

What bugs me out here is that on I-5 all the drivers like to practice their formation driving. There are five lanes of traffic each direction and everyone is moving the exact same goddamn speed. Which would be fine if they were going 80, but these people go at 60, even in the far left lane.

60 if you're lucky! This annoys the hell out of me too. Personally, I can't stand to have another car directly to the side of me or in my blind spot, but most Seattlites love it and form an impenetrable wall that moves around 30-50 in a 65 zone.

This just gave me a good idea for a videogame though. Someone could make a stuck in traffic game based on Breakout! Each car is another brick in the wall that you are stuck behind. You can bounce a ball off your car's front bumper to carve a way through to reach your destination on time.

Atlanta is surrounded by a bypass with a 55 mph speed limit. Here is a short film about what happened when some students decided to actually follow the law. It's worth watching, imo.
