Robotrek, The Twisted Tales of Spike McFang, Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals, Dragon View
and Ardy Light foot are not widely known and are pretty good.

If you are playing on a rom then Terranigma is unquestionably 'the best in my mind' rpg for the snes.
I would also highly recommend both Lufia and Lufia II.

IIRC, Ziggy was either making, or looking into making Terranigma repro carts.Crystalis wrote:If you are playing on a rom then Terranigma is unquestionably 'the best in my mind' rpg for the snes.

Tecmo Secret of the Stars was pretty good. I second Lufia and Terranigma.
Re: Best SNES Rpgs
Seiken Densetsu 3, Bahamut Lagoon, Shin Megami Tensei, Star Ocean, Rudra no Hihou and Magic Knight Rayearth are some of the best RPGs on the SNES. Unfortunately, the U.S got boned big time because we missed all these great games. Thank god for fan translations and emulation.
If your looking to buy carts only, Illusion Of Gaia, 7th Saga, Breath Of Fire I, II, Lufia I, II, Paladin's Quest, Ogre Battle, Soul Blazer and Ys III are some of the lesser known ones that are well worth playing. If I had to pick just one though, it would be Seiken Densetsu 3 hands down. Its in english, and why Square never released this timeless gem still makes me scratch my head.

Re: Best SNES Rpgs
I really LOVE Shin Megami Tensei (haven't played second one), but I will say "screw it" to the Super NES version if they translate both of the PS1 ports (I have a chipped PS1) of SMT1 and 2.
Shadowrun is AWESOME. Perfect for fans of cyberpunk (i.e. Blade Runner, Johnny Mnemonic, the works of William Gibson), or even fans of the pen-and-paper RPG it's based on. But I should tell you right now, the ending isn't very epic, they never made the sequel, and there's no reason to play it again once you beat it.
Basically, if it's obscure or fantranslated from a Japan-only release AND isn't available as a superior port on a later console, go for it.
And Quintet's "Heaven and Hell" trilogy, with info here.
And if you haven't played Actraiser, walk away and go play it.
Anything from Squaresoft (like fantraslated Front Mission) or Enix (too many to list) is a must.
Breath of Fire 1 and 2... YES.
There are Fire Emblem games for the SNES, but none in English officially, and IDK if any are fantranslated yet.
Earthbound, if you haven't played it yet, is worth playing.

The $500 to get all the rpg's and maybe Starfox 2 in my opinion is totally worth it.
