I just bought another PSone for £10, couldn't really pass it up since it had RGB Scart cable, couple of memory cards, couple of controllers (not dual shock unfortunately but no biggie, since I have 2 official PSone white Dual Shocks) and it was in mint condition with the box. Got it home, looked underneath and noticed the warranty seal had been voided. Lo and behold it has been modded. This thing has 9 wires and the chip is tiny, boots my NTSC originals and copies and everything. Sweet.
One problem is, the output for the system menu and boot up is in NTSC. So when I use it with my PAL PSone screen it just does the rolling scramble thing. If I use a PAL game it'll scroll until the 'Piracy affects legitimate users' etc warning screen, then it's fine.
This is definitely a PAL console, it says so on the bottom. Is there anything that the modchip could be doing to the system to make it boot up in NTSC mode? Or is there a hack I can perform on my PSone screen to make it display in NTSC all the time?

dunno, i had a PAL PSone, my problem was it didnt output proper NTSC. Maybe the person swapped out the PAL motherboard for a NTSC one?
Re: PAL PSone is outputting video in NTSC
That had crossed my mind. Seems completely pointless to do so, but I'll check if the serials match up.
I had a look for a PSone region mod and couldn't find anything on Google, just mods for PS2 and outdated links too.
