Sega Saturn scart problem

Post by Haros »

Hello guys,

there is a problem when I plug my sega saturn console to the scart lead of my 16:9 tv. It seems that the image it's not completely adjusted to the screen. There are some black "gaps" right and down of the screen.

Is it a way that this can be adjusted? On my 4:3 monitor the image was ok so I guess there is something with the 16:9 (?)

Thank you.

kind of vague, can you post a pic? on a 16:9 tv, at the correct aspect ratio you will always get black borders on the left and right of the image. these go away if you adjust the aspect ratio/screen settings on your tv, but the image will be stretched.

Yes I know that. But like i said i get about an inch border only from the right and down side of my screen (i have it to 16:9 mode I know it stretches the image). It just seems like the image isn't adjusted properly.

I'll try to get some photos when I get home.

On a lot of TVs, there is a service mode where more advanced settings and calibrations can be done. If you list your screen's manufacturer and model# I might be able to find how to access that mode so you can minimize the problem.

ahh that can be a problem.

I have LG M2262D (tv monitor) in my room.

I wanted it too to access the service panel (for another reason though - to activate the usb divx playback) but from what I have seen the monidor needs a lg service remote for that.

If you could find another way I would be more than glad to give a try.

Ah it sounds like you can get to the service menu with a Pocket PC / Smartphone running Windows Mobile / HP PDA / Palm Pilot. If it has an infrared port/led you can install a program called NoviiRemote and load a file with the LG Remocon Code-Base into it.
Here's a kinda rough guide and some code files:

If you don't have that sorta PDA/Smartphone, you can probably find a capable palmpilot at a pawn shop for next-to-nothing. I hear their Infrared is pretty good compared to most Pocket PC devices.

I was aware of the novii method but I don't have any PDA/Smartphone. As it seems it's needed now, so I'll see what I can do about that...

One question. Have you faced a similar problem and fixed it by tweaking the settings in the tv's service menu?

Thanks for your help.

Yeah, a got a cheap Toshiba flat-screen CRT, and the HDMI picture was too big - it smeared the right edge of the picture across the entire screen. Also it had bad color, and badly shaped edges. I tweaked all the settings and fixed the problems. The service menu was much easier to get into than yours tho - Just hold TV's volume button and remote "0" button down for 5 seconds.

yeah, for my living room's lg tv was simple as pressing "menu" on remote and "menu" on tv for 3 secs. But this lg monitor - tv is a totally different story. :P

I am wondering. If I get an s-video to scart adapter (I own a s-video saturn cable too) is there a possibility for proper image adjustment? These adapters are for like a pound on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RGB-Scart-to-Comp ... 3ca522e7df

s-video is inferior picture quality to scart. cant you just play at correct aspect ratio instead of trying to stretch. thats the way i play my saturn on my widescreen lcd.

also if its a 50hz PAL Saturn connected by scart , maybe thats a problem. i only use 60Hz Japanese consoles.
