Selling it all?
Re: Selling it all?
Right before I go to college, I'll need to sell off everything that isn't important. I want to have as little debt and as much money for things like food as possible.
Re: Selling it all?
I had a very extensive Intellivision collection at one time, I sold it off in one lump sum for a good deal of money. While the stuff was all really cool, I never used it all and it all sat in the closet in boxes and boxes. If I have a hankering to play Intellivision games, I just pop Intellivision Lives! into my PS2....
The one I regret is having sold off my Game Gear collection. While I've pretty much rebuilt that collection and then some by quite a ways, the stuff I have now still isn't the same stuff I bought new back in the day.

Ow! My small intestine!
Re: Selling it all?
do not do it. you will regret it.
if i think back on the things i've owned and sold for one reason or another, it just makes me sick. i have a pretty good idea of how i want my collection to grow and i'm going to keep it that way for a long time now. no more selling shit off, no more buying bullshit i don't actually want. more playing, also.

Re: Selling it all?
About 5 years ago I sold my Snes, NES, N64, PS1, PS2, Saturn and DC stuff all at the same time. I felt like I was spending too much time on collecting/obsessing so I sold it all off. I still regret it, but it did solve my obsessive collecting problem, and I mostly just buy stuff that I will actually play now. The cash was nice at the time, but I wish I had kept it.

Re: Selling it all?
Hello,
I am new here but have been lurking for ever.
At one time for purely finacial reasons, I had to sell my game collection. It was a horrible time. What made it a bit easier was that I had just met (and moved in with) my current wife. Since I was focused on her I didn't need to get Baker Acted. I had some trully Excellent games and systems. All of the Pazer Dragoons in mint condition, Hello Kitty Dreamcast, Bonks 3 CD and more. Total of about 630 pieces.
Fast forward 5 years later... And I have been able to rebuild my collection. Currently 827 pieces. Now I have several games I never had before as well as a NEW PINK HELLO KITTY DC (NEW never opened), Steel Battalion, RE Chainsaw as well as a bunch of other nice games.
Funny part is that now I find myself thinking how I would combine them if I ever sold them off again.
IF you would like to see my goodies.. I have set up a web sight to show my stuff off. I am not sure if its OK to post the link ... so I wont. If its OK and you would like to see it let me knoiw.
Thanks

Re: Selling it all?
I couldn't sell my collection. Like my comics, my games are something that I want to pass down to my son or daughter, if I have kids, and if they are interested. If not, I'm giving them to a long time friend when I'm no longer on the green side of the grass.
Re: Selling it all?
That's not what I was trying to do! There are a lot of stories on here about people selling because they had to and (of course) regretting it later. If you have to sell to pay tuition or the light bill, appease the Mrs., or upgrade to the newer game console, you will probably regret selling, even if you did the right thing at the time...miked wrote: Why you gotta bring up bad memories man!
I am looking for "happy" stories! I am curious if anyone ever sold a bunch of stuff without regret to do something fun or purchase something they always wanted. For example, I don't know if I'd regret selling my 16-bit collection of games if it would fund 3 months of travel across Europe or something like that...I think the trade off in life experience would be well worth having to emulate until I could build a collection up again...
Think about it - if you have 200-300 games that would be valued at an average of say $10 each, and maybe 4-5 systems that are valued around $100 each, you could put together a decent little chunk of change to do something really memorable or fun. If you collect for a pricey system or have a much larger collection (as many of us do) you could probably get rid of 80-90% of your collection and raise $10K or more. Has anyone ever done something like this?
As big of a pain as it would be, the most lucrative route would probably be to sell most items one by one on eBay. Whatever you didn't manage to sell individually, you could then sell in lots...enderfall wrote:It'd be very hard to put a price on an entire collection that both the buyer and seller agree with.
Re: Selling it all?
That's rare?! I have two copies...JordanPlayer wrote:One day I walked into a Half-Price Books nearby because they were having a 20% off sale. Sitting in the video game case were 2 copies of PSO I & II Plus... yes the even rarer version lol. Needless to say I bought one to keep and one to sell (kept the one that had the manual with it).CRTGAMER wrote:Wide disparity in prices.
Example:
Gamecube PSO that I bought at Gamestop for $4.99 is now topping out at $184.69 on Amazon:
Unbelievable! If you do find one at Gamestop it still goes for $4.99.

Re: Selling it all?
Been there, done that about six years ago. Long story. I have to say that when everything was gone, it was actually kind of liberating. My collecting was starting to get a little out of control, and I think I needed the experience to knock some sense into me.
I have rebuilt my collection to a degree - luckily the guy I sold the bulk of it to was willing to sell some of it back when my situation improved. I'm not interested in regaining every single game or console I had. The stuff I have yet to get back that I actually want is just a couple of imports and the consoles to run them on, along with a nice chunk of my old Atari collection.
