I don't know. I think each of them took me at least 30 hours. I wasn't using walkthroughs (though I did use them/cheat on the longer Quick Time Events in Shenmue 2, because I hate those). I was taking my time and enjoying the experience, but I couldn't bring myself to care about getting all of the collectibles. If you don't know who you need to speak with or where to go next, the games can take a long time!

Also, I think I enjoyed Shenmue 2 more than 1 (with the exception of the QTE's). The pace for part 2 is quicker than the first.
Maybe it was 30 each. To be honest, It's been about 8 years since I played through the first one last and probably 4-5 since Shenmue II.
I hope no one hates me for saying this, but I hate the 1st Shenmue.
This isn't a "why do you like/dislike Shenmue" topic.

I'm not really sure how many hours it took but I beat Shenmue II during the summer over the course of maybe 2 weeks. The last few days I was playing several hours at a time. I think with the Shenmue games I've always had a good balance of exploring and playing through the story. Once you're into the game it will play very quickly or at least you'll play a lot at once.

kingmohd84 knowing how you intend to play through the game quickly, I'm curious what you'll think of the last part of Shenmue 2. I think it was the whole 4th disc of the Dreamcast version. I'm not going to say anymore about it, but for the people that have played it was that last part skippable? I enjoyed it as a way to learn more about the story, but I could see others not liking it.

I played through the X-Box version. The last part on it was absolutely incredible for me. It was not shippable; nor should it be. :)

Don't worry Kingmohd, we won't give anything away other than saying that these games are awesome and that we NEED Shenmue III!

Well I always liked 1 over 2, but they are both great.

You see, that is what I liked more about Shenmue 1, but then I love adventure games. One thing Shenmue 1 has over 2, is the fact that going to work is fun and not just grinding. In 1, you drive a forklift and it is a pretty cool mini game. 2 was just like a big QTE session, moving boxes by hand, and that gets tedious. I mean some QTE is good, but not too much. Its like booze or maybe twinkies.

Plus, the final 80 man battle is awesome. Shenmue 1 ftw.

You're totally right, Bladerunner. Working in Shenmue was fun but in the sequel it was a boring grind.

Both are great games, i purchase Shenmue wehn it first came out so i had no choice but to play it in order. Then later on i picked up Shenmue 2 for xbox and finished that. I loved everybit of it wether the 1st or 2nd. But for some reason the 1st Shenmue just had that spark. It is much more memorable to me.
