New Dreamcast game- to include online???

Post by soniklife »

I have been following this thread over the Dreamcast Talk forums about a new Dreamcast game in development called "Tahi - The Arocean War" and supposedly it is going to be an open world RPG. Outside of a few production shots nothing really hasn't been released but there has been a decent amount of discussion on said forum about the game and what they are hoping to do. And recently the discussion started to find its way to the possibility of including online into the game. That would be pretty cool but considering so few Dreamcast owners presumably do not have their Dreamcast connected to the internet I wonder if is just a lot of work to only service a very small amount of potential players.

Regardless, of the online aspect I am actually pretty excited to have a new RPG on the Dreamcast. Additionally, it is also nice to see a new Dreamcast game that isn't just a shooter or Half Life mod (even though those are cool). Anyhow I haven't seen anyone talk about this game anywhere else so I thought I'd post the link to the Dreamcast Talk forum thread as well as a link to the developers new site.

The game sounds like a complete rip off of Avatar, though the site claims the game has been in the works for over 10 years. Hrmmm....

Maybe it is based off of Poul Anderson's Call Me Joe, like Avatar "isnt."

Don't forget "Dances With Wolves", guys!

Anyway, this looks very interesting... can't find a ton of info on it though, even after following the links you provided.

Avatar is clearly a rip off of Harry And The Hendersons.

just to point out, this project was talked about way before avatar. that being said i checked out their main sites newly made foums and found this:

"All is well in regards to the game. We will be discussing the story with our writer hopefully tonight to clean up some loose ends and to ensure ourselves it's as far away from James Cameron's Avatar film. When we started the project in July, we had no idea what Avatar was, it was not until we saw it that we drew some similarities with the film to our game. Not only that but we also need to develop more camaraderie and iconic relationships with the game."

here's the site so you can check it out:

the idea of online was recent and while i really hope they pull this off, i can't help but think that maybe this project is becoming a little too ambitious. i know they stated that if they can not get it online they shall just make it an normal rpg.

I don't think I would do any online (56k modem connection is to slow and those broadband adapter cost an arm and a leg). Seems too ambitious. But then again I am super lazy.

An Avatar rip-off? I don't care if the main character is blue, and they stole James Cameron's script, I'm still going to get this game. The prospect of a new online game [and better yet, an online RPG] for the Dreamcast makes me positively giddy. :D

Do you have any idea how derivative Avatar is? There's so many ideas taken from other movies in Avatar that just about any Sci-Fi movie that comes out after it can probably be (wrongfully) blamed of ripping from Avatar.

Let's have an alien race that can communicate with nature. -Avatar rip
Let's have robots that the pilots mentally control. -Avatar rip
Let's have colourful, whimsical forests. -Avatar rip

If you're talking about this:
Fight along side your friends online to explore and conquer the bizzare, alien world of Tahi and recover or exploit its precious resource; Oorian energy.

Yeah, I don't really understand why this game is going to be online-capable. Seems like a waste of time. Maybe they'll release a new broadband adapter? (I can dream)
Avatar soooo invented that. That's not like, commentary on the war in Iraq, and that tootally wasn't in Pocahontas.
