I wish someone would commercially release a new PS1 game
It would be interesting, just for the novelty of it. Anyone with a PS1, PS2 or PS3 would be able to play it, so there wouldn't be any problems of not being able to run it. The only obstacle I can see would be the memory card, but PS3s can simulate a PS1 memory card if I remember correctly, and they could probably program it to work with a PS2 card. And if that wouldn't work, the game could be packaged with a memory card. PS1 cards can't cost too much to make, considering how low-tech they are.
In fact, it wouldn't even have to be a new game. I would be satisfied with the same thing happening, only the game was a re-release. What do you guys think?

I would like that too, but I chose PS1 because it's the oldest system whose games the average person can run today. You can't run N64 carts or Saturn games on any modern console, without that emulator nonsense.classicgamer5 wrote:That would be awesome. I also would like to see new releases for the Saturn

Re: I wish someone would commercially release a new PS1 game
Metal Gear Solid was re-released on disc in 2008!
Link:
It's on real PS1 Black Disc CD-ROM's works on any PlayStation ever created and requires a PS1 Memory Card. Literally a re-pressing from the ground up.
Sony did in fact support the PS1 in America until March 2006 with reprints and brand new hardware, even going as far as supporting the original PlayStation with fresh reprints in Japan until late 2007!
Also Sony will still even repair original PlayStation consoles with brand new factory fresh parts (Slim PSone's only, though) for a $30 fee.

Along the same lines Atlus put out more copies of Persona 2: Eternal Punishment in 2008. I remember it being announced after I finally snagged myself a slightly pricey copy and was annoyed.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:Metal Gear Solid was re-released on disc in 2008!
Re: I wish someone would commercially release a new PS1 game
Nope. When the PS2 boots up a PS1 game, it goes into PS1 mode, so it can't use DVDs, use PS2 memory cards, etc. I found that out when I saw a post talking about how you can't put multiple PS1 games on one DVD.BoringSupreez wrote:they could probably program it to work with a PS2 card.

This doesn't surprise me. There is a law in the US that requires electronics manufactures to back stock replacement parts for specific electronic devices such as computers and other complex gadgetry for a period of 7 years (maybe longer, I'm fuzzy on this). There are many instances where the 7 years comes and goes and the manufacture is left with warehouses full of repair parts. Companies will usually recycle the materials (when possible) or blow out stock at discount prices.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:Also Sony will still even repair original PlayStation consoles with brand new factory fresh parts (Slim PSone's only, though) for a $30 fee.
For a long time Sega would send Dreamcast replacement parts to customers upon request.
