Time Travel

Post by Big Stupid »

Time Travel seems to be logically impossible because it implies that an event both did and did not happen. You can't both be and not be at a place in time, but there you are. Time travel seems to violates the law of non contradiction.

Putting all of this baloney aside. If I had a time machine I'd go back in time and win the 1990 Nintendo world championship and keep the winning cart. Oh yeah, I might have said hi to Jesus and Michelangelo if I had the time. What gaming related thing would you do if you could travel back in time?

I'd go kill Bernie Stolar...

Or at least keep him busy with other things until the Dreamcast came out.

You really want to know?

1) Play Pong in the first bar it was released in.
2) Played some SpaceWar at MIT.
3) Buy a Magnavox Odyssey at launch.
4) Go to some of the Space Invader clubs in Japan in the late 1970s.
5) Play Quake multiplayer from day one.
6) Spend more time in the arcade.
7) Buy a Dreamcast at launch.
8) Play more TFC around 2000, then go back and play some more, then go back and play some more...

1)Meet myself as a toddler
2) Steal every Video game console at its respective launch
3) Open a bank account at the grand opening of a bank, Deposit all of my money, go back to present time, collect interest.

There are some interesting New Age ideas about our perception of time essentially being an illusion, meaning all things happen NOW. There are a lot of interesting alternative universe theories that are related to this idea too. I won't go into detail as I don't even completely understand it all myself. I think Einstein also believe in time travel and if I'm not mistaken Stephen Hawking as well

If I could go back in time, in all seriousness, I'd probably just be an observer. Keeping with the theme of the topic though, I guess it would be to simply buy a copy of every super rare game ever released. Actually two, one to play, one sealed. Heeheehee, I could make a fortune selling some of the sealed ones on ebay

If you could devise some sort of machine that would allow you to travel near the speed of light, then according to Einstein's theory of relativity, you theoretically could go forward in time, but not backwards. You wouldn't see a "future you" though. You would have simply appeared to have been gone a long time, but not aged.

I was a semi-finalist in the Utah state portion of the competition. No special cart for me though. I did get to play on stage with two other kids and giant jumbo screens behind us showing the crowd what we were doing. That was fun, especially since I kicked their butts. :D I also got this nifty sticker that I keep affixed to the top of my trusty old NES.

According to this book, I have on the subject of time travel. If one were to reach the speed of light they would slow down in time. Hm, I have no idea who to believe, some nerd who wrote a book or the guy who almost won the Nintendo Championship. I'll have to take your word for it JT. Anyway the possibility of time travel is so minimal that it's pretty much physically impossible. But it's not logically impossible if you travel to a parallel universe. Just be sure to avoid seducing your mother and running over your grandfather.

Also, I could bring back an X-box 360 to sell it as a prototype to Sega and make a fortune. Like with all 360's it would break and then Sega would go out of business and the Dreamcast would never end up being made. How frightening. I think I'll just use it to gamble on football games.

By the way, that's one nifty sticker!!!
