What are your favorite Final Fantasy spin-off games?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I tend to think that it's a matter of taste.
I think it was mathematically proven that FFTA < FFT. If I get bored I'll try and dig up the proof again.
I've never heard anything good about Tactics Advance, it's hard to imagine how they could improve on the PS 1 version gameplaywise. And the PSP port was great despite some technical issues and the annoying decision to make most of the new equipment multi-player exclusive. I simply loved those gorgeous new cut scenes. And Balthier was actually useful(unlike Cloud)

I never thought of the Kingdom Hearts games as a Final Fantasy spinoff, more like a new IP. Personally, while I enjoy a lot of things about the KH games, there's a part of me that hates the way they use Final Fantasy characters, particularly the first one

Definitely FFT on the PS1.
The first Final Fantasy game I could actually call my own, and I'm glad it's the first one I got to personally own.
My PS2 stopped playing PS1 games right before the final dungeon, so I'm trying to replay it on the PSP, but WotL just doesn't add up.

Anyone dislike the new translation for WotL?

You have to be okay with the law system. I think that's where the derision comes from.
Nah the law system doesn't add much but it is the way you get new skills.
I like FFT Advance. I haven't yet played FFT. I *love* Tactics Ogre for the GBA (Knight of Lodis).

I think it isn't just the law system that you have to be okay with. The way you get new skills (which isn't at all related with the law system) I find a bit annoying. I much prefer Tactics Ogre system, and I hear FFT also does it differently.

You have to use certain equipment and use the skills associated with the equipment. If you win battles with it equipped you get some points per battle (e.g. 100 points) that accrue towards learning the skill(s). Some skills will take more points for you to learn them. After learning a skill you can use the skills without having the equipment on, in some cases even if you changed the character class. You need certain number of skills from class X and/or class Y to assign advanced classes to your character (e.g. to make a Time wizard you need to have a bunch of Black mage skills learned).

I actually liked FF Tactics Advance.

*hides*

My brother ran off with my copy of Final Fantasy Adventure/Seiken Densetsu, but I got pretty far and liked it before that. Also, FFTA2 > FFTA. Haven't played the first FFT yet. I just got the three FF Legend games in the mail, so I'll have to try those soon too. I heard though that the first SaGa game's engine is so buggy it practcially doesn't have one.

@Amish: no need to hide. Like I said, there's plenty of people who adore FFTA. It's one of those games I always pull out to play a battle or two and then come back to it in a few weeks. It's one of my favorite and most played GBA exclusives.

And where'd you get all 3 FFL games in one go? A trade? If so, nice work! I had the first one when it first was released, and just recently got the 3rd. Still haven't played the 2nd.

It's not that bad. It's just that it thinks that all enemies have weakness to all your spells, and you can use saw (instant death weapon) on the last boss, and when it was localized they accidentally made the glass sword have 50 uses instead of 1 use.
