If your nightmares made games, what would they look like?
Re: If your nightmares made games, what would they look like?
Indeed, sleep paralysis seems to fit the bill. Funny how it used to be perceived as demonic visitation in times past, as that's the feeling I'd use to describe it. I wonder why it's always distorted in such a frightening manner, though.

Re: If your nightmares made games, what would they look like?
To be perfectly honest, I'm not personally entertained by horror. I understand where it roots from - fear is a very, VERY powerful emotion. However, because I find myself very sensitive to human mortality, the grotuitousness associated with communicating extreme horror is something I'm not entertained by at any stage, but am rather deeply troubled by.
However! I would like to thank you, JT, for inadvertantly explaining why I used to have all those dreams about bugs crawling under my skin - I was troubled by those for a long time. I had begun to assume it was about how death slowly eats away at us -- something inside of us that we can't remove, and always slithers around and makes itself known in the most unsettling ways. However, your explanation makes alot more sense considering what I was going through at the time.
Sorry I couldn't add much to the discussion, but yeah, thank you for clarifying that for me. Your topics are always wonderful, Mr. JT.

I used to always have those "sleep paralysis" dreams. Usually, it was when something was chasing me, my legs would move at about 1 inch a second. And it was like being on a treadmill, because i didnt go anywhere. Then, theres always some monster thing chasing me.
But then again, I also have sleep paralysis dreams where it is fun. I can fly, but as the dreams progresses, i lose the ability to. And when I jump and try to fly, i can barely get anywhere off the ground and i fall really slowly back to my feet.
I've also noticed that girls have more nightmares than guys. My mom, and like 5 of my friends moms constantly have nightmares and scream in their sleep. I dont know any guys who do that. Not trying to say girls are more scared of things, i just think they might have more nightmares due to some chemical thing thats different in their brains.

That's normal dreaming. Not sleep paralysis. Sleep paralysis is when there is a sort of 'malfunction' between your conscious and sub-conscious. Basically, when you sleep your brain switches off motor-functions to stop you acting out your dreams physically. People who suffer from Somnambulance are experiencing this malfunction, but they act out what they are experiencing in their dream, either in the form of sleep walking or night-terrors. Sleep paralysis is the opposite of this, you're semi-conscious, but your brain is stopping you moving to protect you from acting out your dreams therefore you feel like something is stopping you moving (the right side of the brain is trying to take dominance over your left side -- the creative side, used for imagination and creative tasks) hence the hallucinations experienced at the time.tahoe2 wrote:I used to always have those "sleep paralysis" dreams. Re: If your nightmares made games, what would they look like?
My reoccurring dream is ridiculous, but I find it terrifying.
It usually starts out like this...
I wake up in a Condo, great view, I am surrounded by computers. my robotic Companion robot just woke me up she says " Time for work Master Laing" I get ready and go to work, it is a bright white polished building, almost translucent. I go Inside and elevator takes me down into a deep underground lab, I am finishing building my life's work, a self replicating robot. Capable of making legions of Strong dexterous humanoid robots made for the military.
I test it the machine starts working fine, then something goes wrong, the code activates the war machines they kill all of the staff, I could stop them but I don't, instead I lead them outside where massive violence and killings happen, they destroy buildings everything, then it cuts to a scene where a robot is ripping out a mans throat then dropping his mutilated corps on the seat of a car.
The last part I remember is me standing laughing at the Chaos with music starting to play.
The music is in fact my alarm going on.

Well, truth is, I had this dream where I went to the bathroom and discovered that I was producing chocolate cake. And I mean it, moist chocolate cake with a thick chocolate frosting, and even one of those little pink flowers made out of icing on top. So I go and grab a plate and do my business over it, and boom - another piece of chocolate cake.J T wrote:OK, I keep debating whether to ask or not, but what the hell... did you eat it?Ack wrote: I suppose it will never beat the dream where I discovered I could shit chocolate cake.
So I then call my friends and tell them, and their response is to come over to my place and throw a party, where I provided the dessert.
I woke up after that, and the first thing I said to myself was "What the hell was that about?"
