between shenmue I & II

Post by RCBH928 »

Hello everyone,

I didn't play any Shenmue, but I got both , 1 for dreamcast and 2 for Xbox.

I just want to know how does 2 compares to the first, and how long is the games.
I know Shenmue is like real life, where you can play it a lot over and over, but roughly until you complete the objectives. Is it like 100 hour game or 20 hour one?

I always get this feeling that Shenmue 2 has nothing exciting about it, and I hardly any one talking about it.

shenmue is one of those games that if we tell you it's good, that not might be the case for you anyways. it's either you like it or not. so just play the games. start with 1 and go into 2 since the story is a continuation. shenmue 2 is actually really good. . as for the length...shenmue one isn't super long but it should make you looking for more in shenmue 2.

I like Shenmue II a little more I think... but they play pretty much identically. Play them through as one game. Maybe... 15-50 hours for both, depending on how you play?

I enjoyed both games immensely. Playing these games are probably in my top 10-20 game experiences ever. If you're at all interested in Asia and enjoy more open-ended RPGs, then you absolutely NEED to play these games. Don't rush through them, please take your time with them and enjoy them slowly. That's the best way to play them, in my opinion.

Yeah, you really should play these games whilst savouring every single little detail. Try and collect all the little figurines/collectables, develop a caffeine addiction, get high scores on all the arcade machines, play lucky hit over and over, talk for hours to the locals. Just immerse yourself in it, it's the only way to really enjoy it. Also, check out Ryo's Sega Saturn.

I think the Import PAL Shenmue 2 for Dreamcast is pretty good.

Captured mood of game with Japanese voice actors and English sub titles.

Also Any game that gives you an opportunity to play Space Harrier has got to be good.

If only it included the motion chair .................

hmmm....

My problem is time, there are tons of games I am waiting to play,
Can you imagine I just got to Assassin's Creed and Bioshock , I wanted those day 1 when they got out, that was two years ago!
Games like FF7 and Oblivion are not helping too, I am waiting to play Oblivion for two years now, all those games need a ton of time.

there is even more games.

I will take your advice guys, if its that good.

I'm in the same situation. I'm just getting into Fallout 3 now, but I've owned it since August. I also bought Metal Gear Solid 4, but haven't even tried it yet!!! Same with Assassin's Creed. Heck, I have Baulder's Gate II that I haven't gotten to yet... in a decade!!!

You just have to pick and choose. I DO highly recommend Shenmue I and II, but you do need to give them some time. Honestly, I think 30-40 hours for BOTH games will be enough.

I don't know. I think each of them took me at least 30 hours. I wasn't using walkthroughs (though I did use them/cheat on the longer Quick Time Events in Shenmue 2, because I hate those). I was taking my time and enjoying the experience, but I couldn't bring myself to care about getting all of the collectibles. If you don't know who you need to speak with or where to go next, the games can take a long time!

Also, I think I enjoyed Shenmue 2 more than 1 (with the exception of the QTE's). The pace for part 2 is quicker than the first.

I hope no one hates me for saying this, but I hate the 1st Shenmue. It is extremely boring, all you do is walk, then talk, then walk for most of the game. I havent played number 2, but after the first one, I dont really want to.
