I've been playing Final Fantasy IV Advance...

Post by Ramatut4001 »

..and I love it. My first foray into RPGs was FFI Anniversary, which was a good introduction to turn-based gaming, but FFIV is awesome. I'd like to play V and VI and some other 16 bit games like Chrono Trigger before trying FFVII and other 3D RPGs. I've been trying to figure out which Dragon Quests are really good. From what I've read, it seems like 4-6 might be a good place to start. What do you guys think?

I know this post is kind of pointless, but I'm just sort of excited having discovered an entire genre to which I've never given a chance.

I beat it recently and I don't know why. Everyone kept telling me to keep playing it, but I didn't have any fun. I guess I was just super bored for a week and I hate not finishing what I start. I have something against 2D FFs.

Oh and spoiler, lol.

But a GBA port of Chrono Trigger would have been mega win. Squaresoft just doesnt understand it's fans.

Did you post a pic of the final boss to the game he said he was playing for the first time? Lol.

Dragon Quest/Warrior III on the GB Color is actually a nice game. A bit older and thus a little slower, but still cool in its own way.

And yeah, FFIV kinda was less interesting to me than I remember.

The GBA one has super "EG" versions of the bosses in an additional dungeon, including the last boss.

Don't worry, I didn't look at it!

marurun - I might pick that up. It looks cool, and complete copies can be had for around $20.

Dragon Quest/Dragon Warrior 1 is a good, quick introduction of how the mechanics of that RPG series works. DQ 1-3 are all a unified story, 4-6 are unified, but I think that 7 and 8 are independent stories. DQ8's mechanics are too much like Final Fantasy for me to really consider it as a separate series, unfortunately. There is very little distinction anymore.

FFIV Advance is horribly buggy, unfortunately. It was rushed out the door. The SNES version plays a lot better. FFV has a very unique job system (and if you like it, try out Final Fantasy Tactics on the PS1). FFVI is very character-driven, and I think the best of the series. FFVII is way overrated.

Aside from the battle stutters which fail to register commands, what else is wrong? Also the Europe version tweaked about half of the stutters out. But yes, FF5 and FF6 are much more solid, though still very boring in my opinion.
