Region modded Duo-R no longer playing TG-16 games

Post by dsheinem »

I bought a region-modded Duo-R on here last year and have enjoyed it, although I hadn't turned it on in about a month. I tried playing Bonk today (TG-16 version, USA), and would only get a white (or sometimes green or purple) screen. I tried 3-4 other TG-16 games to no avail - same results. I tried cleaning the contacts on the games, tried putting them in at slightly different angles, etc. - no dice. When the switch is in NTSC-J mode, I can play PCE Hu Cards just fine. I can play CD-Rom titles just fine as well. But no TG-16 cards, regardless of which position the switch is in.

The region switch still pops in and out as it's supposed to, although I am hesitant to open the thing up as it wasn't cheap. Any suggestions? Is this a common problem with this mod? Anyone think they could fix it (or know where I could get it fixed on the very cheap)?

Sounds like a loose wire. Open it up and look for a pop'd soldier point.

Before you pop it open, try one more time with a US card. Slide it in, then back it out a little so that the lock barely clears the card when you turn it on. I thought my copy of Super Star Soldier was toast when I got it, but I think it's just pushing in a bit too far and one of the card pins wasn't making good contact. I get a yellow screen when it happens to me.
