How do you guys store your wired controllers? Is there one best way to bundle them up without doing damage, or am I being way too OCD?
Best way to store wired controllers?
Best way to store wired controllers?
Right now, I use twisty ties to bundle up the wires and put them in a box. I used to wrap them around the controller, but lately I've heard from a friend that doing that is really bad for the wire. Wireless controllers would of course eliminate the issue entirely, but those damned wired ones tend to still exist.

Wrapping them around the controller won't do any more harm than just rolling them up with a tie will, unless you really pull them taut. My TV stand has two drawers under it, and all my controllers go there.

Re: Best way to store wired controllers?
i think you'd be safe wrapping the wire around the controller if you do it nice and loosely goosey. my 10 year old ps2 controller wire is starting to actually fall apart. i know in the past i would wrap the cord around the controller like there was no tomorrow, which is probably the culprit for the wire going to shit. but i've learned and have since been doing everything loosey goosey.
if you took a shit, please put it back

I put mine in zip-lock bags. I dont wrap the wire around the controller either. I put the bags/controllers in tubs and it looks pretty cool and organized.

You can wrap them around the controller. Just be careful not to twist the wire when you wrap it, or pull it too tight where it attaches to the controller.

Re: Best way to store wired controllers?
Now you guys say you can wrap around the controller but that can cause shorts in the wire. If you're going to wrap first make a large loop from the controller about an inch then loosely wrap around.
I hate when people send controllers with the cord wrapped around it or going to a game store and them doing the same thing. Basicly you don't want to pinch the sheilding and then the wire itself. But if you do it the twist tie way make sure there is a large enough curve on each end. And this goes for anything wired.

Roll the wire into a loop under the controller like so:
It's safe for the wire, surprisingly hard to even attempt to get it tangled up and stores away neatly and clean looking when the loop is folded under the controller.

In my experience, it isn't the wire you should be worried about; it's the buttons. If you wrap the cable so that a button is being held down, it's bad for the controller. I accidentally damaged the B button on my Neo-Geo joystick that way.

Re: Best way to store wired controllers?
Arcade buttons are different from controller buttons.
Arcade Buttons & 10% Of Home Controllers = Mechanical parts with grease and other factors that can seize up if left in a depressed condition.
90% Of All Home Controller Buttons = Home controllers use a silicon membrane that isn't affected by if you were to leave a button accidentally depressed over it unless the controller is extremely and heavily worn.
Also why would you wrap the cord around the body of your Neo-Geo stick? All those hard squared off edges and pressure from wrapping the wire taut is wire suicide!
