Some old lady ran a stop sign and took out my wifes car. After arguing with State Farm for a few days, I got them up to $7000 for the wrecked car.
Anyway, looking for a family friendly(4 door) car(or small SUV) with 4 or 6 cylinders for gas mileage purposes. Something nice and reliable too. Recommendations?
Recommend me a car for $7000

Vote for Corolla.
I bought a '97 8 years ago for less than $7,000 and have had no issues. It's not fancy, but it has served me well.

Yep, you want a Toyota or a Honda. I've had a 1996 Accord for the last 9 years, and it's showing no sign of failing. My GF just got a 2001 Corolla, also an excellent choice. It's finding one someone wants to give up that's the trouble.

Funny you mention Volvo, as I have been trying to convince her to at least go look at this one I found on CL: http://lubbock.craigslist.org/cto/1566760986.htmllost_within wrote:Or a volvo...sucks to work on them, but I have seen more volovs with 500,000 miles than any honda or yota...just throwing another idea out there
2.4 liter 5 cylinder with a turbo charger? Fuck yes.
Looking at the local dealerships websites, Corollas look like a nice choice. Already found a 2005 with 60,000 miles for 7 grand, and thats the sticker price. I LOVE taking down used car dealers.

I'd vote Volvo too. The S60 is a good car and, when paired with the turbo, is also pretty fun to drive. Try to aim for a 2002 or newer though, as they have less electronic issues.miked wrote:Funny you mention Volvo, as I have been trying to convince her to at least go look at this one I found on CL: http://lubbock.craigslist.org/cto/1566760986.htmllost_within wrote:Or a volvo...sucks to work on them, but I have seen more volovs with 500,000 miles than any honda or yota...just throwing another idea out there

This guy I know that is an automechanic says that Toyotas and Hondas wind up in his shop far less often than other cars and that's what he recommended my wife buy when she was in the market for a new car about a year ago.
My family has also had good luck with Saturns, which is what I drive. Great car, but I think Saturn is out of business now, so I'm more hesitant to recommend them now.

I think GM might have dropped the Saturn brand, but anyways.
My vote is for a Chevy Impala.
Then again im biased. they newest car I've owned is a 1996 Monte Carlo. Probably around the time GM stopped making good cars, or so i've heard.
