River City Ransom though more action oriented has many RPG elements to it and is great multiplayer fun.

What would be ideal is a JRPG that can definitely be classified as an RPG, not a game with RPG elements, unless in that case, it's very good... actually, a co-op [not VS.] Strategy RPG [Disgaea, etc.] would be pretty cool. Is there anything like that? If not, a good multiplayer action RPG would be ideal.

Final Fantasy 6.

Ok, so no, FF6 multiplayer really isn't that great. But it is there, surprisingly. You have to turn it on in the options menu, and all it does is allow Player 2 to control two of the four characters in combat, as opposed to Player 1 doing all the work.

Final Fantasy 9 does this, too.

REPO Man listed most of them. That is, assuming you are excluding MMORPGs.

As other people mentioned, many of the Final Fantasy series games will have a multiplayer option if you search through the config menus.

Zelda: Four Sword Adventure for GameCube might also be worth checking out.

Sorry I dont know of a coop SRPG, but there are a couple of coop ARPGS in the Shining series:
Shining Soul 1&2 - GBA
Shining Tears - PS2

And there are a whole bunch for the PC that run on most anything:
Diablo 1&2
Sacred
Dungeon Siege
Neverwinter Nights
Baldurs Gate
Icewind Dale

My favorite online rpg (aside from WoW) is Odyssey Classic. It has been around for 13+ years and is free to play. It's a top-view 2d pvp rpg. Check it out at http://www.odysseyclassic.com .

It is definitely worth a try, but the chat content is definitely intended more for web trolls & more mature audiences.
