I just hope this goes the same way the PSP did. Being able to have all my games as .csos on the HDD would be awesome. Same goes for PS1 and PS2 games. If this happens I'd bang a 2TB HDD in there and copy my entire collection of Playstation 1/2/3 games over to it.

Didn't realise the fat PS3 only supported 2.5" drives. That sucks. Oh well. I'll just make my own connector and use a 2TB 3.5" sata drive.

Btw the biggest commercially available size 2.5" drive is 640GB.

Or playing games from the HDD.... I'd rather fill my HDD with games than video (I can have a lower-powered, higher-storage, and quieter HTPC to play videos.
Same here. I already have a bad-ass HTPC for emulation/videos, I want to rip my PS2 games to my PS3 HD (or use my burned games on it) and sell my modded PSTwo. :D

Me either -- that's a bummer -- here I was thinking I was going to be able to put one of my old desktop drives in it...

Well it's just a sata drive right? I'm pretty sure I could mod support in for a full sata drive. I might have to make it external but I'm 100% confident I could do it. Hell, I might even open my 60GB (not like the warranty is valid anyway) and see if I can make a few adjustments inside to make a 3.5" drive fit.

why exactly do you "hope" it?
I said a while ago I didn't like the idea of pirating current gen consoles. But like the7k said, after I did some more research, Sony won't have to do anything because it doesn't seem worth it to hack your ps3. Might as well buy the damn game.

I don't think there is enough space in any of the PS3 (fat and slim) for a 3.5 HD. If there was sony would probably have used 3.5 ones which are cheaper. You don't even have to open the ps3 thought for a simple mod. the sata slot is on the side (on the fat) and you can remove the cover and stick a cable down the slot (thought there's not much space to maneuver in there). I love how sony actually thought of it's costumers and let us install our own hard drive and they designed the PS3 so we didn't have to open it (which would mean losing the warranty) unlike microsoft which decided it wants to sell us over priced hard drives as expensive accessories.
