People who don't put their carts back into the stalls in general piss me off. My first job was as a bagger at a grocery store, so I had to take carts in too. it's surprising how fucking lazy most people are and just leave their stuff wherever they damn well please.

Europe figured this out. I think it's time the fat and lazy Americans followed suit.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shopping_cart
From the wiki:
In many countries, the customer has to pay a small deposit by inserting a coin, which is returned if and when the customer returns the cart to a designated cart parking point. The motivation behind the deposit systems is not theft deterrent since the trolley is worth significantly more than the deposit, however through this fee the retailer seeks to reduce the expense of their employees having to gather the carts that were not returned, and to avoid damages by runaway trolleys.

Although common in Europe, the deposit system has not been widely adopted in the United States, with the exception of some chains like Aldi, who require a $0.25 deposit. Other stores such as Costco and ShopRite also use the coin deposit system, but it is not used at all of their locations.

In Australia, deposit systems are common in some local government areas as they have been made compulsory by local law.[citation needed] Usually, all ALDI stores, and most Coles[citation needed] and Safeway[citation needed] stores will have a lock mechanism on their trolley which requires a $1 or $2 coin to unlock.

The deposit varies, but usually coins of higher value, such as €1 or £1 are used. While the deposit systems usually are designed to accommodate a certain size of domestic coin, foreign coins, former currencies (like DM coins) or even appropriately folded pieces of cardboard can be used to unlock the trolleys as well. Trolley collectors are also usually provided with a special key which they can use to unlock the trolleys from the trolley bay and get the key back.

Some retailers sell "trolley tokens" as an alternative to coins, often for charity. A system similar to the shopping trolley deposit is also used for profit with luggage carts at many airports, where companies like Smarte Carte charge two or more dollars (U.S.) (or equivalent) for rental, and return a small token reward of a quarter (25 ¢) for returning carts to the other end of any dispenser machine.

yeah I was going to ask, why don't you have this system? It's simple and easy. And it solved the problem in an INSTANT.

Also luke do know that even if you were 100% correct, they way you reacted could have put you in trouble. Specially since she didn't fire any insults back. If I were you I'd put the cart behind her car or park my car behind hers until she took it back. But insulting people just for that could get you sued.

btw here's a pic

Usually they take either a 1 € or 2 € coin. Though I don't know if Americans would care enough for a quarter to walk all the way back. Oh well then the cart collecting boys can take the change left behind as a tip.

Yeah, you went overboard this time, but the sentiment was good and you realize you overdid it. If you normally handle it better, then I approve.

When I was younger, my father was always threatening to slam on the brakes when people would tailgate really badly. He always said that someday he was going to do it if he was alone in the car. Texas is one of those states where if you rear end someone, its your fault no matter what for failure to control you vehicle. I have all sorts of minor vigilante fantasies all the time. It would be cool to have some old heavy solid car and make it all Mad Max and brake for tailgaters and not worry about parking lot dings or people parking too close.

I hate litterbugs, and smokers are the worst among drivers. That butt you just tossed out the window can start a grass fire, of which I've seen plenty, and that filter isn't going to biodegrade. I've thought about collecting some butts from my smoker friends and keep them in my car. If some jackass tosses his shit out the window, flick one of mine in their window, say "I think you dropped something", and watch them freak out.

More on topic, I hate lazy parking lot people too. My Uncle has been on crutches all his life, so I hate handicapped spot stealers a lot. I always go to the grocery store at off times and the lot is usually pretty empty. Most times there are no more than a few cars in each row, but people park in the fire lane out front all the time. Some physically fit jackass in a Mercedes parked in the fire lane the other week when the first spot in several rows was empty. I mean seriously, an extra 12-15 feet. Way to further the stereotype about self important assholes driving Mercedes, guy.

I'd love to confront people, but here in Houston that might eventually get me lead presents.

We dont have a widespread version of that system because we dont have a widely used coin that would make it worth it. To most people, a quarter is not worth the walk back. Heck the mall I worked at back in the day (which now that I think about it was 10 years ago) had a cart/stroller that you could rent using a similar system - you would put in a dollar and get 75 cents back. Every day I found two or three in the parking lot and walked them in to buy a snack. Well I did that until more people realized what I was doing. Damn security guards knew the back hallways better than I did.

If you had to put in $2 and got it back when you brought the cart back, it might work.
