lol.
I have no idea what mine is to be honest.
We have two computers sharing the internet plus the xbox360 but only one computer is used for torrents.
Re: I think Comcast just throttled my bandwidth.
nate wrote:thanks...done. I kinda doubt it makes a difference in my visible useage though.
You're right, it does nothing about usage but sometimes isp will throttle you because they know you are torrenting. The encryption will disguise torrent traffic as regular traffic. How well it works i have no idea.

To hop back on topic.
Comcast uses Sandvine to "manage" traffic. They swear up and down that they dont, but believe you me, they do. I know this because I am currently sitting in one of their offices that happens to have a node in it. Yes yes, that means I work for the evil company, but I work on the commercial side of things and work for the customer - unless they start the phone call with cussing me out, then they get shit customer service.
From what I have seen in my years here is that if you really want to download alot, switch over to a commercial account. You cannot receive commercial TV services at your house, FCC says so, but you can get the internet and phone. Even better, if your area is DOCSIS 3.0 and you can drop the coin, you can get up to 50/10 - soon 100/20). No bandwidth limit, no real traffic shaping (sandvine is programmed to monitor residential traffic - when first implemented it screwed over lotus notes users), and no monitoring. I used a commercial account as a torrent box for a few months when I had a test account. Even in my terrible neighborhood it had a solid 2 meg download from some trackers. To be fair, that was on a linux torrent from college. The basic connection 12/1 will run you $59.95 a month, which is the same as getting internet alone on the residential side. The only downside is that you cant bundle your tv with it so your tv price will go up. But if you drop down to basic only and get a netflix account, your bill will be about the same.
Octopod, if you call in for commercial, odds are you will get one of the people I trained (two months ago they consolidated most of the southern sales team into a call center - I am double checking if they sell Texas, I know they dont sell South Florida). When you call in, say you want a Duplicate HSI (High Speed Internet) account at your house. They wont ask any questions about your business and this is a very common practice. They can bypass the survey and you should be installed within the next 48-72 hours. Hell if you want it, Ill get the best guy I know to handle it personally.

Re: I think Comcast just throttled my bandwidth.
Doesn't uTorrent send information back to the RIAA ever since they got bought? Google utorrent and swifticAB. You'll want to block them at the router, if not just switching to Vuze. (or rtorrent on a linux box
)
We are prepared to live in the plain and die in the plain!
Re: I think Comcast just throttled my bandwidth.
But do you think the RIAA cares if I dl Bikini Ski Trip, Emanuelle in Bangcock or Fist of Steel?
Edit: My point kind of being that I dont really DL newer stuff or even really stuff that is available on DVD most of the time. I could be wrong though I guess, maybe they do care.

Re: I think Comcast just throttled my bandwidth.
I may do this. I do not have a phone though. I really see no need for a landline anymore. Hell, I would not even have television but my wife watches it. I actually do not live in Texas anymore though. I moved to Haverhill, Mass. Have not been in Texas for about a year and a half now.fastbilly1 wrote:To hop back on topic.

Re: I think Comcast just throttled my bandwidth.
Youve shipped me things and I didnt know that...shows how much I am paying attention. In that case, my prices may be off.
Re: I think Comcast just throttled my bandwidth.
Here is a question for the people reading this thread just to see if I can throw my own topic anymore off topic than it has already gotten. Does anyone know any good tutorials for DVD burning? Making menus and all that fancy shit? Also how do I do seasons of television series? Anyone know of a good site for this stuff?
