Well, recently someone backed into my car at the parking lot at work and caved in the whole driver's side door. No note, no one contacted me to take responsibility. Where do kids learn bad behavior (or more accurately, NOT learn proper behavior)? From their parents. The parents of misbehaving children who do destruction should compensate the damaged party for that destruction. For the parent who says, "accidents happen, kids will be kids" should have their own property is destroyed and with no compensation provided so they can see how they like it.
It all comes down to a lack of personal responsibility in the world.
I'm sooo not ready for kids...

This thread exploded!
I'm seeing some blue-ish/white circular marks on my set that, while not terribly obvious are still present. These symptoms are likely due to the following:three or four random punches, a couple index finger stabs, and a large plastic Lightning McQueen model striking the panel.
I'll be submitting a repair order to Samsung in the morning to see if I have a fighting chance with a replacement panel. This is in the neglect/abuse category, so I dunno. The parents of the guilty child will be receiving a prompt phone call if this doesn't pan out.

omfg. where were the parents? This much damage couldn't be caused by an accident. And after the first assault on the tv the idiots should have payed even more attention to their kid so it doesn't do something stupid.s1mplehumar wrote:This thread exploded!

I wouldn't even call Samsung, it's not their fault. It's the fault of the parents who did not bring that child up to respect other people's and quite possibly their own possessions. I was brought up from a very young age to respect my stuff, if I broke it, it didn't get replaced. That is how I'm going to bring my children up when we eventually get round to having some. Whoever that child belongs to show you absolutely no respect, especially since they have not taken responsibility. Repairing that TV set is the least they can do.s1mplehumar wrote:This thread exploded!

Never call Samsung first instead of the parents and neglect to take pictures of the damage.
The first thing you should have done was drag the parents over to the set while they were still in your home the night of the incident. Second, take pictures immediately so they they or Samsung can't claim that it was completely your fault and that they aren't responsible/won't repair it. Third, Samsung won't do shit; YOU broke the TV for as far as Samsung cares so YOU'RE responsible, it's all in your warranty pamphlet that came with the set.
Yeah it sucks, but that's exactly how it works. Negligence, abuse, acts of God and any other problems that may arise outside of a defect caused the manufacturer themselves (For example: If Samsung had sold you an already broken panel to start with.) is YOUR problem not Samsung's.

I know my son is already in love with video games, and although he is only two and a half, he is well behaved and takes care not to damage any of my stuff when he plays with it. I even bought him his own Gameboy Color with a copy of Ducktales to teach him how to care for things.
Like you, I bought my eldest (now 9) a GBC about 2 years back. She loves it. Pokemon and Harry Potter RPG-ish games are the current favourites, which suite me as they're quite text heavy, which lessons my guilt as I can write them off as reading practice.
Re: I'm sooo not ready for kids...
Hope you can get this cleared up without losing a friend. Just remember that if they don't cover the damage they caused, they're not very good people to have as friends anyway.
But yeah, I'm with you. Kids are far too much trouble than they're worth. Expensive as shit, demanding of time and emotional resources, and what do you get in return? Nothing. All the research I've seen indicates that non-parents are happier than parents, which makes sense they're a lot less stressed.

I had a friend over yesterday, brought her two kids. Her little girl kept running around the house like a nut. Made me nervous as hell. One of my cats was hiding under a table just to get away from her. Funny how your pets can reflect your own personalityHatta wrote: But yeah, I'm with you. Someone who is currently living with me talked about how nice it would be to adopt a kid if she had the money. I told her, "you adopt a kid, one of us is moving out"
I can't stand babies and young children. I could quote some Bill Hicks lines but they would seriously offend some people here. The only way I'd ever have any interest in a woman with kids is if they are full grown. There's actually one girl I have a bit of a crush on. She has one kid who is about 13 years old. No biggie, he's a teenager. I could probably hang out with him and play video games.

Sources? I can totally see that being true, just wondering what studies you are referring to.Hatta wrote:All the research I've seen indicates that non-parents are happier than parents, which makes sense they're a lot less stressed.
I plan on having kids in the next 1-3 years, but right now I'm more than elated to have my dog as my "kid". She's obedient, friendly, protective, and knows how to pick me up when I'm feeling down.

Kids are an investment. Really worth it when you are old and helpless and looking for a meaning in life
