More and more I seem to be finding myself drawn to the games released in the late 90's up to around 2001. I guess this was my 'prime' era of childhood gaming. All the memories of playing Quake 3, Oni, and Max Payne on the school Mac's, as well as enjoying games like Gran Turismo, THPS2, and Need for Speed 3 on my Playstation. So many good times, I used to be the best in the school when it came to Q3. Thinking about it just throws me into an irresistible urge to play these games.
Sure I don't have my Playstation anymore (Dreamcast is working well for me though, I really regret selling the PS1 off, but they are like 5 bucks for console, and a dollar for the games at the pawn shops here.), but I was recently able to pick up a like new PowerBook G3 Pismo on eBay and as the time of this writing, I'm about 30 minutes in to Max Payne, which is an amazing game, and brings back wonderful memories.
So where in time are your fond memories? I gather most of you probably grew up with the NES/7800. I'm interested to know though, what games give you extremely fond memories?

91-99 for console gaming. I loved my mega drive, I loved the snes with emulation.
The best platforming games of all time came out during these years. I also loved the n64, for the best 3d platform games. and the psone. for crash bandicoot, castlevania SOTN and for the best Final Fantasy era ever (even though 6 is my favorite as a whole I like the ps FF games way more than the SNES ones. and I don't even like 7
)
also the game boy saw super mario land 2 which is one of my all time favorite, and wario land 1 and 2. oh and also the first 2 pokemon games (red/blue gold/silver) which rocked.
and 98-2004 for pc gaming. Deus EX, Age of Empires, Alpha Century Half Life 1 and 2, Oni, Max Payne, Civ 3, Red Alert 2.

Re: Found my "era" of nostalgia.
i started gaming when i was really youngish, probably when i was 5 or 6, which was around 93-94. the first games i remember putting a lot of time into were donkey kong country 1 and 2, super mario world and super mario all-stars on the snes. i remember wanting a genesis badly because i thought sonic was the coolest thing in existence, and i would always play sonic 2 at my cousins house. then i got an n64 and later a ps1, and i think that's truly where my heart belongs. i specifically remember devoting an immense amount of time into super mario 64, goldeneye, starfox 64, wave race, diddy kong racing, wwf: wrestlemania 2000, wcw/nwo revenge, and mario kart on the n64. for ps1, i was all about spyro 2: ripto's rage, thps2, tekken 2 & 3, and crash: warped. i think all of these i could consider "comfort" games, because i have so many memories of playing them.
Oh, come on, don't leave your uncle T-Bag hangin'!

PC in the early-mid 90s. Some of the best adventure games ever were produced then. Early FPSs too. Doom still beats any FPS I've ever played for sheer fun. And of course, Civilization. And who could forget Scorched Earth?

My era of nostalgia is the PSX era. The kinds of videogames coming out on the PSX just blew my mind back then because Sony threw all of Nintendo's qualms re: sexuality and violence out the window.
It was very much "you can't do that on Nintendo!" but in a more mature, non Mortal Kombat, sense. All of those games really stuck with me because it was so shocking to see mature (and relatively more intelligent) games for the very first time on a successfuly and commercially mainstream console.

Been replaying Xenogears for the last few months. Currently at like 65 hours and still on the first disc. Very nostalgic, anyway. Also, Mortal Kombat II is eternally linked in my mind with Pearl Jam's Vitalogy and a few other rock albums from around '95. Surely one of the most nostalgic games, if not THINGS, I can think of.
My game-related blog.

I would kill for a updated DS release of this game. This game is why I bought a Gameboy.ZeroAX wrote:also the game boy saw super mario land 2 which is one of my all time favorite

Re: Found my "era" of nostalgia.
My era was definitely with my Game Boy Color. I love that system a lot; definitely my favorite handheld. I played RPGs for countless hours on it; all the GBC-released Dragon Warrior games were my most played games, followed by Pokemon [I was probably the only kid in my whole school who didn't have Pokemon as their most-played Gameboy game. ] Now that I think about it, I pretty much only played RPGs on my GBC. I remember my parents dreading having to constantly buy new batteries. [When the GBA SP came out, a rechargeable battery pack blew my mind!] Anyway, I have fond memories of the GBC. Until I lost my first one when I dropped it in a parking lot, and a car ran over it.
I remember working really hard to earn enough money to get a new one. It was totally worth it. I'm collecting games for the system now, so I can relive those great memories of portable RPGs, and always nervously checking the battery light.

1996-2001 was my era, for sure.
