I say all you child haters should redirect your anger towards the real problem. Shitty parents!!

Some kids are just horrible brats regardless of the parents.

Whenever my friends bring their kids over, I watch them as if they were puppies who haven't been house trained. My game room and office are off limits too. Plus we child proof the house before they arrive.

No question about it, the parent should be replacing the TV.
My three year old knew enough not to touch stuff like the TV. I do have a nephew who is 13 and is retarded. He still does not know better and will wantonly destroy stuff. You just need to keep an eye on him.
Most recently we were at their ski condo and my sister-in-law kept a bunch of rolls of toilet paper/paper towels under the bed (one of those giant Costco packs). He proceeded to unravel every single roll. The sad thing was that his younger brother (12) was in the room and didn't do or say anything. My sister-in-law saw the huge mess and was shocked. Of course we laugh about it now and just say "That's Nick". With him, you have to be constantly supervise him. I can understand the parents getting tired of that. Fortunately, they have the money to just replace the damaged stuff. In some cases, they don't bother because it'll get damaged again (their TV doesn't have the black fabric cover the speakers, their VHS player has some toy jammed in it).

wow. all of your friends are shitty parents. A kid is not a dog. You don't feed it, scold every once in a while, and let it be by itself.
That picture of the kids and the white paint a few posts back was totally the fault of the parent. You just don't leave children alone at such a young age, specially with stuff like that.
If you are too irresponsible to pay attention to your kids, don't have any in the first place. But don't go accusing them when your parenting is to blame.
And really when your friends don't tell their kids to respect other peoples' possessions, what does that say about them? That they weren't bothered to make a small point like that to their child. Not even out of respect for you.

I totally agree with ZeroAX. You can't punish the child because they haven't been taught manners. It is the parents that need to teach their child to behave in other people's homes. The child's parents need to know to supervise their kids as if it were theirs. I have a 3 year old brother and it's up to me to tell him not to touch my games, not my parents. They just say, "well that's how kids are" but I tell them," no its how you raise them." I hate parents who spoil their kids.ZeroAX wrote:wow. all of your friends are shitty parents. Re: I'm sooo not ready for kids...
I have two children and I've taught them both to respect certain things. Especially those things that are in other people's houses. We've lost a few DVD's in the process but they belong to them and they're cheap and replaceable; though we haven't replaced them. They've since learned to take care of their things or they won't have them anymore. It's actually really easy to do as long as you're willing to spend the time and energy needed to do it correctly. We constantly get compliments on how well our children are behaved compared to many others.
I can't however promise your dog will enjoy the experience. LOL
In this situation I would have paid for the damages and my two kids, 6 & 3, would be finding ways to pay me back after a proper talking to.

that's the key to proper parenting. but as i've said most people think a kid is like a dog, scold it enough and it will learn. The point is to teach it to respect things out of understanding and respect not out of fear.

I remember My father slapping my hands away from the TV because I used to try to change it randomly. It worked though, I never changed the channels again.
