I have to wonder how useful the hack would be, though. Blu-Ray ISOs are huge, and I get the feeling more and more ISPs will start throttling, rationing bandwidth, or using any other method of nickle and diming customers for increased net usage as time goes on. At the very least, it should allow you to pretty much get everything on PSN for free.
Seems cool, but this is one of those things I probably won't get into myself until the PS3 is on it's last legs. I feel a lot better about hacking a system after it's been discontinued, both because it's not really hurting the companies at that point and the companies won't retaliate with firmware updates that brick your system.
PS3 Hacked!

6.99 on Newegg.Breetai wrote:$25 for one? Maybe 2-3 years ago. You can buy cheap brand BD-Rs in sets of 20 for $25 now (double for high quality Sony brand), at least here in Japan. They're NO WAY they are $25 for one in North America or Europe.lisalover1 wrote:Frankly, most used PS3 games are cheaper than a $25 BD-R

Not sure if it will be worth it considering you'd have to buy a Blu-Ray burner, the discs, then fool around with your PS3.
Re: PS3 Hacked!
Hacked or not, I'm gonna keep getting my games the old fashioned way, fair and square. I knew it was gonna get cracked one of these days, and people will take advantage of that, but I just don't like the idea of pirating the current gen consoles. Gonna hurt the company's sales, then they might charge extra for dlc, then people will complain and things'll just get messy.

to be honest ill believe it when i see it, they have had claims of iso loaders since shortly after the launch from "reliable sources" to be honest it would be nice to see one not get hacked for once
Re: PS3 Hacked!
I hope Sony finds a way to retaliate, like Nintendo's bricking firmware updates or Microsoft's ban from xbox live.

Eh, I don't know that they even need to - and if they do, I hope they don't go to the extent Nintendo did. Nintendo's bricking units is a bit much, especially considering there are many out there who experienced the brick and didn't mod their systems at all.Veno wrote:I hope Sony finds a way to retaliate, like Nintendo's bricking firmware updates or Microsoft's ban from xbox live.

why exactly do you "hope" it?

That's about double or more the price one one BD-R disc in Japan. Still, it's NOWHERE near the $25 for one that was claimed by the OP!GSZX1337 wrote:6.99 on Newegg.Breetai wrote:$25 for one? Hmm... what about PS2 games on a BC unit?
Or playing games from the HDD.... I'd rather fill my HDD with games than video (I can have a lower-powered, higher-storage, and quieter HTPC to play videos.
