(Yes, that's one of my kids on my arcade machine).

On the flipside, parents need to control their kids when they're out. I've got 3 kids, and I watch them like a hawk if we're at a friend's place. There's no way they'd get half a chance to do something destructive. And in the highly unlikely event that they'd did, I'd reimburse the damages 100%.

People who don't look after their kids piss me off. And despite having kids of my own, there are certain friends of mine with their own kids who aren't invited to our place because they don't return the courtesy.
That video is great! Congrats on the cool kid!

I know my son is already in love with video games, and although he is only two and a half, he is well behaved and takes care not to damage any of my stuff when he plays with it. I even bought him his own Gameboy Color with a copy of Ducktales to teach him how to care for things.

As good as he is though, he is just a toddler, and when we are over other people's homes I make sure to keep him in my sight at all times. I can't imagine letting him near one of my friend's TVs!

One of the reasons I collect retro games is so that when I do have kids they get to play historic games on old consoles.

...I just had a vision of said kids discovering if my Dreamcast can eat chocolate pudding.

Hmm, I'll have to rethink that one.

Here is how I see it. The 3 year old kid destroyed your TV, and since he is unable to pay you to replace it, it's the parents' responsibility to do so. You shouldn't even have to ask them. The moment they hear what happened they will apologize and offer to replace the TV.

If they don't, you need to sue them and stop being friends with them. Done. Hopefully you learned a lesson about letting kids in your house.

kids are great, you just have to teach them to respect things. it's other people's kids you have to worry about. i'm sure this point has been belabored upon at least 40 times in this thread by now. i like my son a lot, i don't know if i want any more kids though.

Unfortunately, what Inazume said - if the parents were there when the kid did it. If the parents don't take responsibility for their kid's actions (which they really should without even being told), the legal system will force them to.

If the parents were not there, then some other adult is responsible. Why exactly could you not stop the kid yourself, if I may ask?

We still need the damage report to properly assess the situation.

Crayon on LCD
Pudding on Plasma
or total psycho kid who He-maned your Flatscreen CRT?

My daughters only 23 months and knows not to touch my 60 gig ps3 without asking. And when she replaces a disk, I make sure she does everything correctly. She can't reach my tv yet.

She says, "Daddy's toys, Maren no touch."

This is exactly how I feel.

I say all you child haters should redirect your anger towards the real problem. Shitty parents!!

Yup. Seriously. It's not like we weren't kids and did similar stuff one day.
