Re: Thinking of buying a PS3, please help...
its got 3 ratchet games already.. 2 retail, 1 downloadable and i've heard they're all excellent. as stated previously, little big planet is an excellent 2d platformer. darksiders just came out and that apparently is a decent zelda clone. a few other titles worth checking are the uncharted games and infamous, both mix gunplay and pretty decent platforming.
and in the wii's defense, it gets good games you just need to know where to look. obviously people have trouble with that, cause every time a decent game comes out thats not published by nintendo, no one buys it. but thats another topic..
edit: someone already mentioned ratchet. whoops.

Oh, come on, don't leave your uncle T-Bag hangin'!
Re: Thinking of buying a PS3, please help...
Mostly with the Wii is I just dont like the controls. I wish you could play some of the Wii games with the Gamecube controller.
I guess the stores and everyone else are just pushing these shooters, oh yeah and rockband games really hard. Maybe gamers like me are a forgotten market. Hell, does Square still make RPG's?
Yes, I admit, I am way out of it when it comes to any new games. I am stuck in a time warp of cartridges and multi cd games LOL

DO NOT buy a Wii. Sure it sounds great now, but you will inevitably be disappointed. Search your heart, you know it to be true.
The Rachet & Clank Future games are fantastic and should scratch any itch for platforming you might have. In addition to that there is LittleBigPlanet, which is a blast and Sonic Unleashed (which I didn't think was as bad as others) and Braid (which speaks for itself). There is nothing on the 360 that is comparable to R & C or LittleBigPlanet. The Wii has more than a few great platformers. But that's really all it has
As far as Zeld-a-likes, the brand spanking new Darksiders is wholly a grimdark Zelda. And it is awesome. And if you're seriously into Action RPG's Demon's Souls is the zenith of the genre.
Now, Survival Horror is a little more difficult. Besides RE5 and Dead Space, and both of those are multi-platform. I can't think of anything that will stand out on the PS3.
I own both, and I can say that if you aren't into FPS's (the 360 is a total shooter box), then there's not much upside to going with an XBOX over a PlayStation.

Seems you are really into your PS3. Maybe they just need a little more time to develop a library.

Also, Valkyria Chronicles.
Re: Thinking of buying a PS3, please help...
Every console from Atari 2600 to NES to Dreamcast to the current Wii - PS3 - 360 all have their own unique great games. Maybe spend some time at various store displays trying each system. SOFTWARE is what makes a great game machine. Find the games you really like then buy the matching console.

I second this but I don't know if it falls under your "war" like games since it is a Strategy RPG. Might want to check out there are a couple of great RPGS on the PS3 like Eternal Sonata, Demon Soul's, and Darksiders. To reinforce the PS3 is that 2010 seems to be a very promising year for the system.

Get a fully backwards compatible PS3. 3 generations of games, you will never run out of games to play especially with the PS2's library.

Agree.
If you go for PS3 than the Emotion Chip 4 USB CECHA01 is the one to get.
