PS3 Hacked!
It's been several years since the PS3 launched, and it still had not been hacked, until now. A hacker has announced the success of a hardware hack of the PS3's copy protection. The hack hasn't been released yet, but when released, will likely allow any user to play burnt BD-R's. Frankly, most used PS3 games are cheaper than a $25 BD-R. Still, who knows? Maybe we will be seeing custom firmwares soon, with backups playable from the Hard Drive. I certainly hope it goes this way, anyway. http://www.gadgetvenue.com/sony-ps3-fin ... -01235158/

MKV video file support? I know that I am able to watch MKV's on my PS3 just fine when I stream it from my computer using TVersity. If the PS3 doesn't normally support MKV, TVersity is likely encoding the video to a supported file type on-the-fly.ZeroAX wrote:crosses fingers for emulators and MKV support. if sony doesn't give to the people the people will take what is rightly theirs:D (talking about mvk).
Re: PS3 Hacked!
If it took them this long I can't imagine that it'll be an easy hack to do. And risking ruining my PS3 would suck since 60GBs are becoming scarce these days. Games are in a constant need of patches to fix bugs etc these days. Not being online and unable to DL these updates to avoid banning or bricking seems more trouble then its worth if you ask me.
Then again I know little about hacking so maybe I'm completely wrong. Being able to play games off the HDD would be cool though. I'm not trying to say its a dumb idea or nothing just not for me. I'd just rather play retail copies. After my friend got his 360 banned and Wii bricked I just steer clear of modding my current systems.

It's a little annoying to have to have a computer powered on when you watch videos on the PS3 but at least it's possible. I download a ton of anime and a large amount of it is in MKV format so I'm just thankful it works at all.ZeroAX wrote:Inazuma wrote:MKV video file support? Re: PS3 Hacked!
Yeah, .MKV support [multi-audio, too] would be awesome. Hey, maybe XBMC will give the PS3 a port! The 360 is well on its way to homebrew, so we might expect an XBMC port for that. Anyway, I can't wait to see what kind of emulators are possible. We may even see PS2 emulation on non-backwards compatible PS3's, Gamecube emulation, or maybe, just maybe, Xbox emulation. If it gets far enough, DS and PS3 emulation!

Re: PS3 Hacked!
Well, I guess now the PS 3 will finally be the best gaming console you can own. This was the only thing missing. Hack friendliness is the thing that has made the PSP so awesome and I was waiting for someone to crack the PS 3 too.
Although I can already hear complaints about how this will hurt the PS3's third party support and game sales. So maybe it's not such a good thing...
Still, emulation and backward compatability. Oh the fun I could have

Are you sure about that .mkv support? I've watched plenty of .mkv videos I've copied from my network store onto the HDD on my PS3...

$25 for one? Maybe 2-3 years ago. You can buy cheap brand BD-Rs in sets of 20 for $25 now (double for high quality Sony brand), at least here in Japan. They're NO WAY they are $25 for one in North America or Europe.lisalover1 wrote:Frankly, most used PS3 games are cheaper than a $25 BD-R
