Best Arcade Compilations

Post by TheyCallMeTheSwede »

I remember when I was a kid I would buy almost every Midway arcade collection they had on the PS1, and just love every game they had on every disk, to me I love the idea of having certain amount of games all in one disk, but just made me think that I'd actually expanded my collection without cluttering my space. I'd also enjoyed the Namco Museum compilations, same reason as I just mentioned, plus I like the idea of going through a museum in a first person perspective and just look at all the stuff they had displayed.

Anyway, right to the point, what do you guys think is the best Arcade compilation?

I read somewhere that the Wii verson of that suffers less problems with slowdown, although obviously you'd need to invest in a control more suited to the games. Classic should do if you don't want an arcade stick.

Metal Slug Anthology is probably one of the few compilations I ever bothered to own, just because I love the games so much, and I don't want to pay for the AES carts.

Capcom Classics Collection Volume 2 is very good, along with the Metal Slug Anthology and SNK Arcade Classics.

Atari Anniversary Edition Redux (PS1) - Said to be better than the Dreamcast version!
Street Fighter Alpha Anthology (PS2) - No loading times!
Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 1 and 2 (PS2) - Great games. Great emulation!

I'd recommend the PS2 version of Metal Slug Anthology, just because of the lack of Classic Controller Support on the Wii.

However, on the subject of the Wii, there's Ultimate Shooting Collection, a compilation of Karous, Radio Allergy, and Chaos Field. Also keep your eyes out for Data East Arcade Classics.

If you are into pinball, you should check out Pinball Hall of Fame on PS3/360. GameStop recently dropped the price to $9.99 - I plan to pick a copy up today, assuming the weather doesn't kill me.
