I played the hell out if it in those two days!

Probably took me around four hours to beat. Considering it's a free game, and that there are tons of choices you can make that affect the story in major ways, I'd say it doesn't affect the games overall value.

Did they finish the PSP port? I thought it was still "in progress".

Having played a little bit on my PC last year, I decided to stop and wait for the Wii version instead. The game looked and played so great, it made me want to get as close as possible to a console experience (ie: comfy couch, big screen, controller instead of keyboard) since PC gaming has never been something I really got into. Playing on PSP would probably also be great though... and I imagine it would be a sweet portable title.

I would personally suggest beating on the PC first though. Apparently, the Wii version will be slightly different, so they will probably both end up being worth playing through.

Also, the length of the game would lend itself nicely to a portable console.

I played through it on the PSP and didn't notice any problems with it. It's cool because the playfield is using the pixels 1:1 so you have the whole 480x272 screen filled.

If anyone needs more Cave Story, there's a fairly active modding community making new games using cave story's engine.

I haven't tried any of them, but some look pretty impressive.

I picked up Cave Story for the DSi last month and just finally started playing it last week. Wow, it is a lot of fun. I did download the free PC version awhile back but it didn't appeal to me for some reason. After seeing many people rave about it, I decided to give it another go but this time on the DSi.

So are all of the ports identical? That is, the DSi, PSP, and Wii versions are the same?

I will have to check some of the user mods available but it seems that I'll have to play them on the PC.

Since this thread is kind of old now, some of you might be interested in playing a game or two inspired by Cave Story. In that case, you should try Momodora:

Just saw this thread for the first time. Never played it although it's been on my radar for years.

Thanks for the link JT!
