Hello.
I have a problem with my PAL neo-geo cd system. It worked perfectly until some time ago, then started just restarting at random occasions (like power went down, then suddenly back again)
Now it restarts quite for some times in a row and there seems to be no pattern to it.
I only noticed that when you leave it alone for quite a while - it gradually begins restarting more rarely.
What could be the problem? Is it the impulse block or something else?
Don't tell me to fix it elsewhere. Nobody services them anymore anyway.

Which model do you have? Front loader, top loader or CDZ?

When it resets, is the area around where the power cable connects to the console warm/hot to touch?

No. Everything is ok with that.Niode wrote:When it resets, is the area around where the power cable connects to the console warm/hot to touch?

Did you try popping it open and looking for anything obvious? ie: Blown caps, corrosion, etc.

Yes. There is no visual damage or something like that, however I think the problem is with capacitors in the power board, which seems to have withered with time. (console haven't been used for many years by the previous owner). I'll try to replace them and see if it was because of them.Ziggy587 wrote:Did you try popping it open and looking for anything obvious? ie: Blown caps, corrosion, etc.

Re: Neo-Geo CD problem. Random restarts.
Sometimes the 3 prong socket that plugs into the NeoCD loses it's grip with the 3 pins. I had to squeeze the plug end using a pair of pliers to fix it. I had to do this to 2 consoles.
If that doesn't work then it's the other NeoCD problem, the PSU. The PSU overheats and kills the caps in it sometimes. Just crack it open and replace the caps or other parts that may have been affected.
