Tips for running a clan

Post by Erik_Twice »

Probably a good deal of players here have played competitively for a while and know some good tips for running a clan. The reason I ask is ebcause probably I will end up as someone important in my TF2 clan after the TF2 section has been neglected and trobules arised, leading to players leaving the clan and other internal conflicts.

Since there doesn't seem things are going well, any advice would be welcomed.

It is the same as running a company:
- Treat people with respect.
- Set schedules - but do not make them rigid enough that it harms those with alot going on in real life.
- Work with the players to find where they fit best in the grand strategy. Some people are much better at planning on the fly, others are better at data gathering in game.

Ill admit, I never officially joined a clan. I actually really dislike the clan system, but thats just me. I guess I just got burned by so many of them back in the day. Most of the ones that wanted me to join mandated that all players have to make it to four or five practices a week, each practice being over an hour. Sorry, to me that makes the game work, not fun.

Make sure the goal of your clan is well defined. Running a clan dedicated to competing in League X is very different from a clan that has a casual event every month. As Fast said, treat all your members with respect. When you initially set the schedule you wnat to come up with something that will work the best for all of your members. For example, it might be something like "practice Thu Fri night and Sat Sun midday", but then you only require people to show up to two practices a week to be elligible.

Pretty much what fastbilly said. I'll just add to keep it fun. People that get really bent out of shape over the game can ruin the fun for everyone.

Actually I guess the big question is what kind of clan is this:
Competitive - CAL/MLG
Competitive - online only
Casual

I am guessing it is Competitive - online only.

The clan is basically for fun. Competition is a means to an end, fun. Making strategies and taining is fun in itself, winning is irrelevant as long as we have fun. However winning IS fun.

So somewhat of a middle ground.
