Re: Wii: A failure
I would hardly say that nintendo "didn't put in the effort" for wii music. They spent a long time working on that, and got their music composers and performers heavily involved in the project. Just cos it doesn;t happen to be your sort of thing doesn't mean it hasn't achieved exactly what it was made to do.

Be a broken game where swinging the controller above your head achieves roughly the same results as 'playing' the game how you're supposed to?alienjesus wrote:I would hardly say that nintendo "didn't put in the effort" for wii music. One thing I haven't seen any one mention is the fact that since the development tools for the wii are so similar to the Gamecube (meaning that Wii development is therefor both easier and cheaper) then the excess shovel-ware on the Wii is both unavoidable and not Nintendo's fault.
To say that the Wii is a failure compared to the 360/PS3 (two infinitely more expensive and difficult consoles to develop for) is to say that gaming on the internet is a failure because of all the crappy flash games and mouse game/advertisements out there.
When you guys are figuring out the percentage of wii games that 'suck' compared to that of the PS3 or 360, are you taking into account the preponderance of extra software available for the wii?

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Can you tell me a way of working out a percentage any other way?Flake wrote:When you guys are figuring out the percentage of wii games that 'suck' compared to that of the PS3 or 360, are you taking into account the preponderance of extra software available for the wii?

Re: Wii: A failure
So is the PS2 a failure too because it has more bad games then great games and the Virtual Boy the greatest success because it has the lowest percentage of bad games, as we discussed in another thread?
Where's my chippy? There's my chippy.

Re: Wii: A failure
You know I am getting tired of this topic coming up every few days. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and that they can change it, however this has gone on too long and has become mindless bashing. No one is going to change any one else’s opinion on this.
For example:
To me games are about having fun with others. The amount of money spent is less of an issue if there is a lot of fun that can be had with it over the years – this is why I have spent more money than I care to think about on figurines for boardgames and rpgs.
I own several SD tvs, an HD tv, and a dozen monitors varying from an Amiga 1080 to (up until recently) a Sony BVM-A20F1U. So I know what a 360 and a PS3 look like at their best. But none of this matters since the most fun I have had with any game this generation was playing New Super Mario Bros with my little brother, a mutual friend, and one of my cousins last year on a 22 inch tv with bad color. I know that in 10 years I will look back at that time and remember how much fun we had that day (much like we do now with times when we were playing Goldeneye ten years ago now, and playing Super Mario Bros twenty years ago). The closest thing that has come to that on the 360 or PS3 has been Castle Crashers, but even that paled in comparison.
If the Wii only played New Super Mario, Bubble Bobble Plus, and Dr Mario Wii, I would still consider every penny I spent on it well worth it. I, and my family and friends, have gotten countless hours of entertainment out of those three titles (as you know two of which are downloads) than we have out of any other game this generation. And I know that NBA Jam will be added to that list in a short time.
Does this affect any of your lives in the slightest, no. Will you tell me that you think the Wii is a failure because you think that Mario Galaxy is the only game worth playing will change my opinion on it, also no. Will anyone spewing out monetary figures, ratings, or any of the other shit said in this topic do anything for any party, no. I do however hope it leads you to think of what games have brought you the most fun this generation and that you can share them with the rest of us.
We all need to sit down and think about the reasons why we are here. We are Gamers, more specifically, we are Retro Gamers. We are the guys that dig through pawn shops and thrift stores looking for Atari carts and boast when we get a good deal on a rare Saturn game. Why the fuck are we bitching about the Wii having a lack of good games therefore invalidating it as a successful console? Many of us own Jaguar’s, CD-I’s, and Virtual Boy’s, but regardless of the console we can all find a few games worth playing on it, usually making it a worthwhile addition to our collection.
So what if you think it only has one good game, I know several people who hate damn near every single game on the SNES. That’s right, even FFVI, Donkey Kong Country, and Mario Kart. BUT they recognize that others do not share their opinion. You know what they don’t do, they don’t go onto a Nintendo board and ask a question like:
I don’t care if what I just said pisses off anyone, I am sure itll get its share of biting remarks back at it. If yall think I shouldn’t be a mod anymore, fine, whatever, tell Racket. But this is just banal.
And no I will not be locking the topic. I like to think we are adults here, and we can self moderate for the most part. I only lock topics when they are dups, spam, or blatantly obvious trolling attempts. I let this one by since if I locked it another would have taken its place in a few months.

Re: Wii: A failure
Considering that this is a retro site and large portions of people's collections are devoted to "failed" consoles this seems really irrelevant. I mean if the Wii had sold like shit then everyone would be praising its quirks. It would be regarded like the dreamcast except with more triviality of the motion controls

Bubble Bobble Plus? Finally someone is talking about something worthwhile in this thread!!fastbilly1 wrote:If the Wii only played New Super Mario, Bubble Bobble Plus, and Dr Mario Wii, I would still consider every penny I spent on it well worth it.
Seriously, great post all around.

Re: Wii: A failure
Terribly opinionated thread is TERRIBLY opinionated.
I love my Wii. It's a totally different gaming experience from anything else I have, and that's EXACTLY why I bought it.
