In all this discussion I haven't seen Tiger Woods golf mentioned. A game that is multiplatform and is better on the Wii than the 360/PS3 because of its motion controls.
It even passes the almighty metacritic test,

Wii: A failure
Re: Wii: A failure
I mentioned it when I talked about how the Wii should be able to encompass both the hardcore and the casual specifically because of its unique control scheme, but doesn't. Tiger Woods is one of the few good examples of something that the Wii can do but the other platforms can't. Unfortunately, there aren't enough games that take advantage of that.the King wrote:In all this discussion I haven't seen Tiger Woods golf mentioned. Re: Wii: A failure
I don't find this to be true at all. It's in Nintendo's interest to have 3rd-party developers do well. It's a win-win situation for both parties. Developers make money. Nintendo makes money via licensing fees/developer kits.MrHealthy wrote:Really though, the reasons for the amounts of shovelware on wii are four pronged. Nintendo - Tries to kill anything that would hurt Mario / Zelda sales and encourages developers to make shovelware.
Having said that, I don't know what kind of controls Nintendo has over what products a third party developer releases. Do any of them need to go through an approval process? Or you're free to do whatever you want once you've bought your developer kit(s)?
Re: Wii: A failure
Well, it's a bit of a double-edged sword. Nintendo does make money via licensing fees for third-party developers. However, per unit sold, they make a lot more money off of games that they develop themselves. So, they do want strong third-party developers, but they don't want people to purchase a third-party game instead of purchasing a first-party game.gtmtnbiker wrote: I don't find this to be true at all. Re: Wii: A failure
In defense of the OP, my feelings for why the Wii is a "failure" is summed up in the following story:
http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/08/neil ... x-360-con/
I thought I read a more recent article than the April 2009 referenced in the article, but this is all I could find right now. I know far too many people with their Wii collecting dust waiting for the games that were hyped about before the console was released. How is it that the best selling console is used so little? To me that is a clear definition of failure.

Re: Wii: A failure
I never meant for this topic to be this long, but if you need anything to be cleared,
when I said Wii: A failure
I meant that it failed to deliver games, specially games that utilizes motion tracking, the novelty that Nintendo developed that will make them win over huge storage and HD graphics. Its all crappy games, bad graphics.
You see, I do not mind the bad games, it doesn't hurt me. Games like broken Hannah Montana game on ps2 does not make it a failure, it doesn't matter, ps2 is a success because of San Andreas, God of War, FF, GT, the list might never end. But why is the 3DO/Jaguar/Virtual Boy are failures? Because it has a lack of good games.
Now, the Wii hoenstly defies the laws of videogame business. Its the ONLY system with worst games that sells high, inferior hardware and sold more, waaay more. Even if you are talking about PSP being more powerful, true, but DS live a lot longer(battery) and is a lot more solid.
Even if you say that PSP has better graphics , thats true, but so did the 3DO but it never beat the SNES. Can you tell me the games that are better than the ps3/360 library? Honestly. Its not hardware, its the software.
Another form of videogames business rule breaking, is that the Wii is the only console that lacks 3rd party support and is winning like crazy. When it was 64 and GC everyone said that Nintendo should work better on 3rd party, thats what made PSX/PS2 win with exclusivity of FF , GTA, and more. Everyone quit on on Nintendo with their cartridge, remember that?
Now Nintendo is winning with the least 3rd part support, actually 3rd part developers are losing money all the time, only Nintendo is making money for the most part.
Another thing I do not understand is when they say that Nintendo hit the market with casual gaming. There is a Wii at my friends house that no one is getting excited over, its been collecting dust. We can't find a game that we want to play, even Mario Kart is boring. But when we got Buzz for ps3, a friend of ours that has no idea how to hold a controller became a Buzz addict.
The library of ps3/360 and their online service is filled with casual games , such puzzles and more. What makes the Wii so special? I got no idea.
ps3/360 can deliver hardcore+casual , Wii can deliver casual only , with very simple graphics that the GC can surpass most likely.
I am not saying Wii has bad casual games, I am saying that the other 2 consoles got just as good or better games.
Don't get me wrong:
*Wii is the most successful financial
*Wii has the best quality hardware
*Wii plays more games than the other two consoles(VC+GC+Wii)
*The Wii is the only console that provides full backward support
*Wii has the lowest price
*Easiest to mod
*Best UI , most intuitive
But as for Wii games?
Its a complete failure. When you strip features of all consoles , and provide just this generation games a lot of people will get ps3/360 for Demon Soul, GTA4 MGS4, Fable 2, Gears of War, RE5.
But how many people will buy a new console for Mario Galaxy?
Zelda TP is available on the GC, while there is 1 Metroid for Wii there are 2 for the GC, MK Wii is it good enough of an upgrade to buy a Wii just for it? Wii Music? Maybe RE4 just to get a new control scheme, or some last gen port? Maybe I should get new console to play a last generation port.
Maybe I should be cheap a little and save a $100, because the $100 estra is not worth a Bluray player, 120GB of storage, and HD capable system that blows away the Wii into tidbits . Did I mention it has way better online community and online gameplay?
I really hope you got the idea, what do we mean by when we say that Wii is a failure. Even NMH that is supposed to be some kind of a Wii icon is getting a better version on the ps3/360. I hope you understand now.
When you tell me that there are great games on the Wii like Tiger Woods PGA, my question is , why aren't there MORE games like Tiger Woods PGA?

Re: Wii: A failure
What you fail to understand is not everybody likes Demon Soul, GTA4, MGS4, Fable 2, Gears of War, and RE5. I would rather have Mario Galaxy then all 6 of those games. Believe it or not people did buy the console for Mario Galaxy and Mario Kart. I can understand you not liking the games on the system, everybody has there own taste. There is already a ton of great games people listed here that you don't like, but others do.
My friends are the oppisite of yours. We have more fun with the wii then the 360/PS3. Only one of my friends makes fun of the Wii, but when I bring it over he is the frist in line to play Wii Sports Resort, mostly archery, and we forget all about Modern Warfare 2.
Here's how it usually goes, if we are playing the PS3/360 togther we keep yelling, if we play the Wii we are laughing and yelling. Life doesn't have to be so serious, all the games you listed are serious, not counting the corny parts of MGS4. I will pick a colorful platfomer over a realistic FPS and 3rd person shooter anyday. But my sugestion is let this thread die. I had to deal with console bashing the N64 and I don't like going through that again.

I need to clear something,
I am NOT the guy who like realistic FPS and is very serious about gaming, I could have listed games like:
Eternal Sonata: As colorful as it can get
Banjoe-Kazooie
Viva Pinata
Kameo
LitteBigPlanet
Folklore
I think those games would fit the Wii's style of games perfectly, wouldn't it?
The problem is in the over all quality of games produced for the Wii, outside Nintendo(and even Nintendo with stuff like Wii Music) they are hardly putting much effort. While most will work really hard on putting out a great agme on 360/ps3 , on the Wii they are looking to release stuff like Carnival Games and the like.
