how many girls frequent this site?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

My wife frequents lots of makeup, perfume and fashion forums. I would have to say videogames are pretty low "try rock bottom" on the list of sites she visits.

Last I checked, guys still outnumber girls in vidja games (of course), but it's only by 3 to 2. However, I doubt this really carries over to sites like us. Maybe if in addition to a Fighter, Shmup and RPG section we also had Horror, Puzzler and MMO - then we might see a surge of female voices here.

Sims is probably one of the biggest category that appeals to females. I've asked some of my friends who have teenage daughters if they play video games. A couple of them responded that they played Animal Crossing and some sort of sim/real life game.

DDR/Music is probably another category.

It'll be interesting to me to observe my daughters (9 & 6) as they grow older. They both love video games (Pokemon, NSMBW, Mario Party, M&L Partners In Time, Beatles Rock Band). Lately NSMBW has captured all of their attention but otherwise, they love their DSes. My wife really has no interest in games. She rather waste her time with TV shows like Cake Boss, Project Runway, Biggest Loser, etc.

Well, all of the hardcore female gamers I know mainly play Resident Evil/Silent Hill/Fatal Frame, Tetris Attack/Lumines/Puzzle Fighter, and World of Warcraft/World of Warcraft/World of Warcraft.

gtmtnbiker wrote:I would be interested in knowing what types of websites/communities that women/girls like to frequent. I have to think that video gaming ranks near the bottom of that list. I think they would be more interested in facebook/myspace sort of thing, a women's issues site, hobby sites (knitting, reading, cooking, etc).
We all sound like the 45 year old men in business suits who sit around and try to figure out what kids think are cool these days. I honestly think most women are not as different as men when it comes to a lot of things, even video games. All of my female friends are just as into video games as all of my male friends. Keeping in mind that, even though it seems that the women I know don't play nearly as much as I do, none of the men I know play nearly as much as I do. In other words, if I take myself out of the equation and just compare my women friends and my men friends, it is pretty equal. As for content, it does seem that the women I know are not as into sports games. That is about the only difference I have noticed though. My wife and our friend (who happens to be a girl) were playing some hardcore Super Mario Brothers a couple weekends ago, not to mention that my wife is currently playing through Ocarina of Time and she is obsessed with Sonic the Hedgehog. I always hear that I am lucky, but she's not what I would consider any more of a hardcore gamer than any other girl that I know.

As for the DDR and Guitar Hero/Rock Band, I would say it is pretty equal between the women and men I know. About half of my friends love those games (including both women and men equally) and half think they are annoying as shit. The women I know are not all obsessed with the Wii either, I have heard that this console especially appeals to women. Again, I would say the XBox, Wii, and Playstation systems all rank pretty evenly whether I am talking to women or men - most of them like the damned XBox, a lot of them like the Wii (but are becoming annoyed at the lack of adult content), and many are disappointed in the Playstation (but still hopeful).

I think, the main thing, is to take ourselves out of the question - it should not be are women as hardcore into gaming as we (members or a website dedicated to retro gaming) are... because if we think about it, most of the population is not as hardcore when it comes to gaming as we are. Instead, is the average woman just as into video gaming as the average man is? For me, the answer is yes. I will say that, at least when it comes to those I know, women don't seemed to be as obsessed with looking up content of any type online, whether it be video game related, social site related, knitting site related, etc. They just seem to be more focused on life outside of the internet. Perhaps we see more men on this site because women could care less about hearing what others think and prefer just to have fun. I do not think this makes them less hardcore at gaming, maybe less hardcore at getting involved in gaming outside of actual gaming...

*backtracks through thread and shakes head*

Amazing how many interesting threads pop up when I'm not here...

I'm one of those girl gamers who frequent this site. If I'm not posting here, I'm usually working, running errands, watching anime or (hah) playing a video game! I've always been around a lot of guys who play video games - my brothers, my male cousins, and their friends - so I guess the craziness rubbed off on me. It also helps that I have a few neighbors (who are girls) that I'm always playing video games with. (Especially Pokemon Gold and Silver. I think we're the only people within a 50 mile radius who still play that... )

I think the easy way to find out who is a girl...a girl gamer anyway...is just to call them out...we are all games with friends, we ALL know how to piss your friend off and make them come running at you full steam...

"dude...I can kick your ass in *blank* ANY day of the week"

Simply put

"I will put money on it I can kick ANY girls ass 15 to 1 in ANY game"

...then...watch 50 mics turn on as you get pwnd by a clan of all females...the end.
Yep, I know im the one ya love to hate.

hehe, I think we tried this topic before and Mozgus and someone else admitted to chasing one girl who admitted she was a girl away. I agree, though, it doesn't matter. I think of you all as genderless little avatar pictures anyway.
