Pictured: Sales of Yakuza taking a beating outside Japan

As much as Sega fans wanted Yakuza 3 to be localised sadly it's not going to sell well.

I disagree with this writer on a few games.

Yakuza 3. It will sell strongly on its initial release. If SEGA appropriately advertises Yakuza 3, it'll have enough steam to sell at least 2million copies.

2D Sonic game. If it's all we expect it to be, all I can say is New Super Mario Bros. is selling just fine.

The Grinder. He states that it won't sell because it's a 4 player fps. That's exactly why I think it will sell.

Seriously...Project Needlemouse? A 2d Sonic game with only Sonic as a new character with no knew characters being introduced... isn't this THE sonic game fans have been waiting for? Sega has finally listened to the masses and you are saying it is doomed to fail. I do not think so.

I admit some publishers are crazy for choosing release dates so close to big name releases like FF XIII and GOW3. But I think some games on that list will see a certain degree of success if marketed right. Dante's Inferno, Yakuza 3, Quantum Theory, The Grinder and Okamiden could all see some success if people just knew about them "marketing" and could see what there all about. Games like Okami and Yakuza failed for a number of reasons namely, because nobody knew they fucking existed. Also, Yakuza 2 was released late into the PS2s lifecycle with 0 markerting.

I can't stand articles like this. When did pessimistic game journalism become such a growing profession?

Time will tell.

Corn is right about the marketing and timing of Yakuza 2. It's release was poorly planned and not executed well.

The thing is, we all know about these games because we obviously are all gamers. If I had never have a fellow gamer tell me "You have never played Yakuza? You need to pick it up, it's a few years old, so you can get it on the cheap" I never would have played it. The game title sounded so generic to me, but man, when I played it, I loved it, and picked up the sequel.

Had I seen one commercial for Yakuza, I would have picked it up on it's release date. Some games just need multi-national advertising campaigns, and not just in print and pop-ups. Some games, like the new Final Fantasy, do not.

It's not like these games are going to be canceled because of this writer's article, and without the ability to review the games to determine which will fail because they are bad, the article is irrelevant. If you are looking forward to any of these games, then nothing in that article should deter your optimism. If you end up being the only person to buy the game and you get to enjoy it, so what?

Though not software you got me on the soap Box.

How about Hardware ........................

The new PSP that lacks UMD drive.
Marketing ploy to buy downloads direct from sony.

The 360 has theirs so naturally competitors have to keep pace:
Red ring of death "can you believe it" on Sony Bluetooth headphones.
Luckily got it to work after few deletes and resets.

And the Worst - PS3 Yellow "we got you" Light of Death during on on line system update from sony.
Shipped out into Sony service center for "repair".
Had to shell out $162 bucks for that one.

On Sony's defense did receive back even exchange of original 4 usb with Emotion chip PS2 inside. They did put on a new shell at least.

Still Sony fan though, I mean where else can you play God of War!

Your argument makes little sense. What good is your hardware if nobody can afford to take calculcated "artistic risks" with it? What about the numerous developer houses with creative potential that go bankrupt simply because they dodn't break even due to lacklustre sales?

And if a game fails to meet sales forecasts then one should surely think twice before demanding a sequel/prequel/spin-off from said game's publisher?
