TL;DR version:
$500 blue ray player sold as a fancier brand for $3000, the only difference being an aluminum outer casing that it was literally slid into.

This sort of thing is standard fare for the A/V market. Brand whores salivate over their shiny toys that come off the same factory line as cheap no-name and rebadged stuff costing a tenth the price.
Hell, Monster Cable are still selling stuff at ludicrous mark ups. There's a sucker born every minute.

Moral of the story: Pick up the Oppo player since it's the best on the market when considering price point,
.
But seriously, I know all to well that the same factory in China/Taiwan/etc. that makes the $150 budget blu-ray player likely makes the high end blu-ray players as well, but this kind of customer disservice is unparalleled. Lexicon and THX should be ashamed.

Yeah, we all know most stuff is made in the same factories but usually there's at least a little bit of difference. A few of the components are different or the cheaper one is missing a few of the filtering capacitors or something. Maybe the fancier one has 1 extra button and the prices are a few dollars different. I can't think of an example of 500% markup for literally sliding a cover over it. Those holes on the bottom for the vents looked like ass.

I feel bad for people who actually spend money on that...
