What are some games that look like cartoons?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

What are some games that look like cartoons?

Post by J T »

When I was a kid, I was blown away by Dragon's Lair and Space Ace. The graphics were leaps and bounds ahead of everything else back in the 80s because the games used laserdisc technology. Of course the play control was terrible, but I guess Dragon's Lair could be considered the grandfather of the quick time event, before God of War and everyone else started using it.

As graphics have improved over the years though, there have been a number of cartoon games that have come out: Broken Sword 2, Runaway: A Road Adventure, Zelda: Wind Waker, etc. I am always impressed with the graphics in these games because when I was a kid, I always wanted to be able to control my cartoons better than I could in Dragon's Lair and Space Ace. I guess I've never really outgrown that. What are some other more modern games with cartoon quality graphics?

Boy and his blob wii has to be the closest I have seen to an actual cartoon video game.
Wario Land Shake it is also pretty good.

Jet Grind Radio. I feel it's far more like a cartoon than it's sequel, in no small part thanks to it's much brighter color palette.

Also, BlazBlue and most Arc System Works games have very high-res, hand-drawn artwork. Not very well animated, but still good choices.

There's some overlap to the theme of this thread:

Although that one is more concentrated on 2D only. Plenty of cell shaded 3D titles out there that fall into the "interactive cartoon" type experience.

[edit] Oh... I see you participated in that one too. Never mind me...

I really like cartoon games like Broken Sword, cell shading too , but I rather go with the authentic hand drawn stuff...

Team Fortress 2 looks like Toy Story except the part when everyone explodes and fires bullets.

Cliff Hanger is another laserdic game using Lupin the III footage so you may want to check it out.

Dragon's Lair 3D does a great job incorporating the original theme and look to a 3D experience.

WonderDog on sega CD always played like a cartoon to me, and of course there is Willy Beamish.
