If I hook up my Gamecube or PS2 to my flat screen HDTV, it looks great.
If I hook up (via A/V cables) my NES, Genesis, or SNES...it doesn't look very great at all. Suggestions?

Use S-Video or RGB/SCART cables if possible. It makes a huge difference for some TVs.

Most Genesis composite output looks like garbage. Modding will help. NES can be good or bad depending on the colors or checkerboard half shading. the SNES uses the same cables as the N64/GC. Find yourself an s-video cable and it should look pretty decent to good depending on the rest of your setup and rats nest behind the TV.Flake wrote:If I hook up my Gamecube or PS2 to my flat screen HDTV, it looks great.

Is your HD an LCD?
CRTs are usually better for Retro Consoles. There are work arounds though.

Also, don't let your TV stretch the image at all. Put it in 4:3 mode if it has one.

Yep, the HDTV is an LCD. And no matter how I work it (RF, Composite, or S-Video) any and all retro systems look like ass on it. Even most sprite based PS1 titles (for example, Megaman X4) look pretty bad.
The only exception is my wii. Virtual Console games run through it look fine but that's likely because of the component cable. VC NES games do look a little too dark, though.
Do any of you folks have an HD LCD TV that runs your classic systems well? Or should I just keep an eye out for a decent CRT?

Every thing looks fine on my LCD HDTV. Even when I had my NES hooked up to it using the RF adapter it looked fine. And now that my SNES has an S-video cable, it looks amazing.
