Sega Saturn Burning

Post by brott »

Hi, I am new to the burning of saturn games, however, I have tried to follow numerous "guides" and still and coming up empty. The only game that was successful was Legend of Oasis. The rest ( Lunacy disk 1, Shining force 3, Dragon force, Panzer dragoon saga disk 1, panzer dragoon 2 zwei) all do not work. However, using SSF I am able to use the shining force III disk to play it. What am I doing that makes my saturn not able to play it and my computer can? (It says now loading, then says CD read error) The game is (U) and so is my saturn. Thanks in advance guys. :)

Third post in this thread is full proof.

You really should have searched a little before you posted. I post that link in just about EVERY "how to burn my games" thread that pops up, you were bound to find it if you searched. It's also linked in the collection of guides thread that is stickied on the Tech Help forum.

I should have said that I followed that guide, I will try it again. If it does this again maybe someone and pinpoint what would make a game work through the cd rom on a computer and not on the saturn itself. Thanks for the reply.

The drive in your PC is specifically designed to read burned discs, the Saturn was not. That guide just says 'slow'. Are you burning at 4x or slower? Have you tried a different brand of disc?

So I re downloaded the game, went step by step through it. Able to play the mounted image. Burned it at 2x speed. the only thing is I asked imgburn to burn at 2x speed and it said it was, but it only took 3:45 to burn. Thats not right I don't think. I also cleaned the lens. It has done the same thing as before. It says now loading and goes black, you can hear the eye moving, trying to read it. Then the games says CD read error.

I have tried Memorex and Verbatim cds. Same result. What am I doing wrong? I even checked if it was North American. I will try another game to see.

Also, my saturn plays all of the regular games perfectly, so I do not think its a lens problem.

Sorry for the hassle, thanks again in advance though.

I also tried burning the game using another computer. Same result.

Its unclear which game you were trying to burn here. Unless it was a shmup or a puzzle game, there's no way it actually burned at 2X and finished that quickly. Its possible that your burner won't go that slow. I have to use my old laptop in order for 4X to even be an option. The burner in my main PC just won't go that slow.

My apologies, it was shining force III, 240mb ish. Yes you may be right, my computer is almost 3 years old and my friends computer that I tried it on is brand new. Perhaps I have to find an older computer or burner.

I've also heard about some burners not liking some brand discs and whatnot.

When you burn with IMG burn, besides telling you the speed you selected it will also tell you the actual speed it's burning at.

Try Sony CDRs, i had trouble with Verbatim myself. Ive never had a problem with Sony discs in my Saturn. Computer drives will read just about anything.

here is a link to a discussion thread detailing my problem a few months back
