A lot of those games got sub-par reviews:

http://www.metacritic.com/games/wii/scores/

Before anyone jumps all over me for using metacritic as a basis for whether or not a system/game is good, it's really the only fairly objective criteria we have for judging the worth of these products. Yes, you can argue all you want about skewed averages and how the reviews can be biased but it's all we've got. Personally, there's so many games on my playlist that I've been limiting myself to games that get an 85 or better score. The only time I'll buy something that gets lower than that is if it's something that truly piques my interest or is very cheap.

You could say the same for most of the games on 360ps3 too though. And there have been plenty of 85 and higher games I have not like. Its all subjective, but there is sure to be at least 10 games on that list that would interest someone.

The thing is, no one tries to use sub-par games to justify the greatness of the ps3/360. They don't need to.

While the Wii does have worthwhile games, the ps3/360 have A LOT more.

I have a Wii and a ps3 so I'm always hoping for more great games on both systems. And in fact, I've probably had more fun playing the "great" games on Wii than my ps3 owing to the fact that when the motion controls on the Wii are done correctly, they are absolutely amazing. But there are simply more "great" games on the ps3/360 and this makes it hard for me to really support what the Wii has become.

This is what bugs me and others so much about the Wii. It has so much potential that is simply not being utilized. Honestly, the Wii should really be the home of the hardcore and the casual. First-person/third-person shooters/adventure games and RTS are tailor made to be played on the Wii. And yet, we have exactly two (Metroid and RE4) that were done in a high level way. If you add in other titles that actually utilize the Wii's capabilities that the other systems can't replicate (Trauma Center, Boom Blox, Tiger Woods 10, etc.) the Wii has the potential to easily be the best system this generation by far.

But, that's all it's been so far...potential.

I have read the entire thread a second time all the way through and all it is is the same back in forth arguements over and over. Game rating, sells numbers, undiscovered gems.

If the Wii is a failure then the Virtual Boy is a success. I just don't understand any of the logic here and noones explained how the Wii is a failure. Does it break down all the time, did it not sell well, are there no great games on the system, do people trade it in for something else or sell them more then other consoles, is nintendo not making money?

Is the Wii the perfect system? no. Is any system?

I just don't get it. If you don't like it then, don't like it. Have fun not playing the wii and enjoy whatever you do enjoy. Personal I would take the SNES over any other console anyday, but the others aren't neccecarily failure its just my preference.

My main problem with the Wii is that it's not even just a failure when you compare it to other systems - The Wii is a failure when you compare how it currently is to how it was when it launched.

The year it launched saw so many great games come out for it that I couldn't possibly afford them all. Then, after that launch year, we saw just a few releases... mainly, Smash Bros and Mario Kart. But hey, that's fine - I had a lot to catch up on. Speed up to about two months after that, and I've played everything. Now, it just sits there. For days upon weeks upon months, it just sits there.

I sold my Wii shortly after Smash Bros, and it's taken this long for anything to start coaxing me into trying to obtain a Wii again - Tatsunoko vs Capcom. (I'd add NSMB to that, but I already beat it with a friend of mine.) And I know that I'm probably not going to play it after I'm done with TvC, but I guess I can at least mod the Wii this time and make it useful.

Subjective statements ahoy!

I hate first and third person shooters. That rules out 80% of the 360 catalogue for me.

Each to their own...

Again, I'm going by averages. I didn't say that I think the ps3/360 have more great games than the Wii. Instead, I linked to metacritic, which as I've stated before is the closest to anything objective we can use to determine how good a game is. There are 80 games for the 360, 70 for the ps3, and only a meager 27 games for the Wii that get an 85 or better score.

I understand that certain people don't like certain genres (myself, I don't really care for sports games or rpgs for the most part nowadays). But this is exactly why I'm so pissed off about the Wii. It had the potential to encompass all genres in a way that the ps3/360 can't due to its once unique control scheme. Instead, we got something that failed to live up to many gamers' dreams.

I don't really blame Nintendo too much for this though. They made the hardware and the third parties have pretty much altogether failed to make use of it. While I'd still love to see a few more Nintendo IPs (after playing the Wii Sports Resort I'd kill to have a new StarFox game) make their way onto the system with more frequency, most first party releases have been really good.

I'm trying really hard to love the Wii. But they make it so hard to defend.

It's been sat gethering dust for the best part of a year. Why? No games worth playing. New Super Mario Bros, Muramasa and Wii Sports Resort? What do you mean? "that's it". A year and those are the only releases worth shouting about? Give me a fucking break... Cmon Nintendo, you're better than this.
There are many other worth while releases, they just get buried under the shovelware. All from 2009;

New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (not brilliant but is kinda fun with other people, I would never buy it though, my friends can bring it round when they want to play it)

Muramasa: The Demon Blade

Wii Sports Resort

Boom Blox Bash Party (already have the first but meh, whatever)

Punch-Out!!
Klonoa

MadWorld

The House of the Dead: Overkill

and VC;

Have most on their original format so not applicable.

and Wiiware;

LostWinds: Winter of the Melodias

So just because there is nothing that you find interesting doesn't mean there are no games worth playing.
I fixed your list for you. Doesn't seem that impressive now does it? There's a 6 month gap between games worth playing... That's pretty shitty.

(I removed multiplatform games and the poor quality titles)

Frankly, I'm amazed by some of the games you class as "poor quality titles". As an example off of the top of my head, what on earth was wrong with Little King's Story? That was a fantastic game, and probably my favourite game of 2009.

Ok then, 10 games in a year. Really. Is that best they can do?
