32x stereo audio through Sega CD.

I got a 32X with no cables (of course). I have a model 1 genesis, and model 2 sega CD. I've been using a 3.5mm male to male headphone cable to get stereo audio from the genesis to the CD and out the RCA ports.

Now, I'd like to put the 32x on this system and get stereo audio out of both the 32X and the Sega CD. I'm going to have to build a couple cables I think, so I'm checking here to make sure this is correct:

To get audio and video into the 32X, I need a cable that goes to the DIN-8 on the back of the genesis and has an extra lead around to the headphone jack on front. This of course goes into the AV in on the 32X.

Then I need to take the AV out of the 32X and run a headphone plug to the mixing cable input on the Sega CD and finally take audio from the RCA plugs into my receiver.

Did I get that right? I suppose it could go the other way. i.e. mixing cable from genesis to Sega CD, then RCA out of sega cd into AV in on the 32X and then AV out of the 32X into the receiver.

Or it could be even easier, if the 32X sends stereo audio through the cartridge port into the Genesis 1 and out the headphone jacks.

This could all be a lot easier with a model 2 genesis, but I love the way my HDG genesis 1 sounds, so I'd like to get this set up the right way. I checked the 32X manual and it wasn't exactly clear on how this setup is supposed to work. Anyone know for sure?

Just use the mixing cable, all audio comes out through the headphone ports on Model 1 machines.
